But I keep an open mind about everything. I take a bit here, a bit there. Do you too believe that people can find spiritual truths from other books and philosophies other than the Bible.

No, sweet girl, the Bible isn't "mythology," it is a handbook for living for all believers.  But in order to understand it, one must start at the beginning, not the middle.  And it helps to remember that it's a Jewish book, written by Jews and best understand through Hebrew "glasses."  In other words, read it with helps from those who understand it best - the Jews.

You are mistaken. Pick up a copy of the New Living translation. it is much easier to read and understand.

I do...and much of it is so obviously fairy tale-like and mythological (not to mention many of the stories have antecedents in the religions of the ancient Mediterranean world)...but it's meaning is still intact...humans have spent more time learning through allegory (including "bad example" tales) than they have through any thing else...

People who try to shame you for using your common sense are simply manipulative...I feel sorry for them...

You seem sincere. But the truth is that people lie and those books can only be as good as the person who writes them. The bible however was written by God.

For God so loved the world that he sent his only son Christ to die for our sins. If you want to have a deep and sincere relationship with him. Receive Jesus as lord and savior.
