Christians and music.?

Do you think christians should not be listening R&B and rap, i have a friend that thinks so. What do you think?

There is nothing wrong with R&B, or rap, they are a music genre. A lot of people think that christians shouldn't listen to rap, hip-hop, R&B, etc. but actually there is nothing wrong with them in general. The problem is not the genre of music, it's the lyrics. What you need to do is pay attention to the lyrics, if they are not good, ie (a lot of foul language, inappropriate topics, etc) then you shouldn't be listening to them. The other thing that you need to look at is the lifestyle of the artist/band, & what type of message they send. In the bible, it says that we are a temple. therefore, since everything we listen to & see is influencing us, then we shouln't listen to what is inappropiate. It is a choice that no one can tell you, but is between you and God.

I think christians should be able to listen to whatever they want. Just because it's a religion and something they believe in, they should still have the freedom to express themselves through music.

I personally as a proud christian i listen to everything but rock punk or heavymetal because of all its sinning but you should also watch out for the hip-hop and rap going on about there females and mistresses

As a Christian, I can tell you that I listen to all types of music. As long as I know who He is to me, and where I stand with Him, no r&b or rap song could ever make me think differently. It's just music, and as long as its positive, I dont see the issue. Now, if the music is talking about  how much I want to s*x you and eff this and all that, than no, Christians should not be listening to that. Discretion should be used at all times when you are living for God. My mother is a pastor, and please believe that she still listens to Blue Magic, The Temptations, Black Ivory, and all that old school stuff. Nothing wrong with that-
