  1. There was a law given to Israel against tattooing, Leviticus 19:28.

True, the law is negated by Jesus, but it does give an insight into God's viewpoint.

Romans 12:1 says we should present our bodies 'holy and acceptable' to God.

Knowing He is against the idea, why would we want to cultivate it?

  2. "You must not cut your body to show sadness for someone who died or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD" - Leviticus 19:28 (New Century Version)

  3. check in Deuteronomy......but its not ok.....oh and for that dude that said it was ok he's wrong.....bc God owns you whether you serve Him or not.

  4. it is ur body...who the h**l cares what is on ur skin...

  5. Ok well the question is about Christians and Tattoos...

In a nut shell, the passage about tattoos is in Leviticus, which is an Old Testament Law. When Jesus died, and rose again, those who believe in him are no longer under the law of sin and death. However, we are told to not be slaves to sin again as well. This works two ways, because in Galations 5, it talks about circumcision, and even though in the Old Testament it is said to be circumcised, here it is saying do not let yourself be circumcised or you will have to be held accountable to the entire law.

Some people are covered in tattoos before they become Christians. Would they have to have them all removed? In I Corinthians, 7:17 it talks about retaining the position you are in when you are first called (when you became a Christian)- it says if you are circumcised stay that way, if you are not circumcised, stay that way. Thus, if you are tattoo covered, stay that way. It says again, do not become slaves of men (ie, you are a slave of Christ's) (verse 23).

We are told to love the Lord (Greatest Commandment) and love one another as we love ourselves. If you think getting a tattoo is being unloving to God, or to someone, or unloving to yourself, then don't do it.

Romans -the whole book talks about the law of sin and law of the Spirit and basically says, as Christians, we are free from the law of sin and death (the laws of the old testament), but slaves to the law of the Spirit if we have accepted Jesus and believe in him. We are not condemned if we break one of the old laws, which we are not to consider ourselves to be under anymore. Conversely, we are not to go on sinning either which would show ourselves to be slaves to the sin. So basically, we will not die if we break one of the laws of the old testament, as Christians, but we should not become slaves to sin again either.

    Romans 8:1

Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.

A specific example of Jesus' perception of the law of sin and the freedom from it would be the adulterous woman:

    John 8:1-11

    About the adulterous woman brought before Jesus by the Pharisees and teachers of the law;

(beginning at verse 7) "...If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. At this, those who heard him begain to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman standing there. Jesus straightened up and asked her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?" "No one, sir," she said. "Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared, "Go now and leave your life of sin."

  6. Leviticus 19:28 refers to a tattoo which symbolizes worship of another god.

There were many ceremonial laws (as opposed to moral laws) that no longer apply.

However it could still be argued that a tattoo would not be pleasing to God - but more so from opinion.

  7. what is wrong with it. and what was your question?

  8. Leviticus 19:28--‘And YOU must not make cuts in YOUR flesh for a deceased soul, and YOU must not put tattoo marking upon yourselves. I am Jehovah

  9. Leviticus 19:28

  10. Tattoos do not harm your salvation, but does it make it right?  I know so many men and women that wish they had never inked.  Their ages vary from young and old.  There is no scriptural text to forbid you unless you are a Jew.  Modesty directive in the NT could apply.  Funny thing I believe there are verses that speak out against flashy clothes, makeup, and jewelry and yet the modern church woman regardless of age wears way too much makeup and jewelry.

I suggest any person think long and hard about their motives for a tat.  Most are out of provocativeness and that is wrong.  Tramp stamps are a good example.  A woman is showing off something hinting at a better view later.  Not good.

The short answer would have been "Bad idea."

  11. from Islamic prospective

    prophet muhammad (pbuh) said

    curse to tattooer and tatoee

  12. According to Leviticus, it's not okay. Neither is piercing yourself. Or eating shellfish. Or wearing clothes of two fabrics.

Oh well, we can't all be perfect.
