I was talking about 2 Corinthians 6:14 which says that we shouldn't be unevenly yoked with ubelievers, with my mom this morning and I wondered something...

I know I cannot marry or have a non-Christian boyfriend/husband. But what if I fall for a Catholic guy? I am not Catholic nor Orthidox, I am just Christian. Catholics believe different things, which some I consider wrong.

So does this scripture apply to me with a Catholic as well as an unbeliever?

  1. I think if you are going to marry in a Catholic church you have to convert or something like that. I was a Catholic but now I'm a Christian.

    Peace

  2. Catholics are Christians.  They belong to the Church founded by Jesus.

Not all who call themselves christian are true Christians.

  3. why is this a problem to you ? it's love , not religion .

Catholics are Christians , they believe in God ,Jesus , Mary etc...

as for having a relationship with a non-believer , it's important that he loves you not what he believes or not believe .

  4. Catholics are Christians.  Fundies are false christians.

  5. Yes Catholics are Christians!

We were here before all you Protestants came, you genius.

By the way you're Protestant Christian, just like I'm Catholic Christian.

Both are Christians, just a little differences.

  6. You are what you live, not what you call yourself.

  7. I'd much rather meet someone in Church also. If you marry someone who doesn't believe, you're going to have a lot of problems. Regardless of what they say, love doesn't conquer all.

Your faith should be number one on your list. God, family, then career is the proper order of things. Remember that and you'll be fine.

No religion is perfect. Not yours, not mine, not the Catholics. What is perfect is that we do believe that Jesus is Lord. And we try to live by all of His commandments as best we can. Christian simply means, Christ like, not perfect.

    Now stop worrying so much.

    God Bless,

  8. Interesting question.

I knew a couple who got married in spite of religious differences.

Wife was Baptist.  Husband was Catholic.

The wife brought up their children in the Baptist church...

therefore, there was a lingering question in the husband's mind...

"Would their children go to heaven if they weren't baptized in a Catholic church, as infants?"  (as the wife did not do this and her faith indicated when the children were of age, they would make that decision about baptism, themselves.)

So, you see?  You both believe in Jesus.

But if your dating led to marriage, you might have to ask yourself

what are the differences/beliefs of our religious doctrines?

would our eternal salvation be in jeopardy if we attempted to compromise on those beliefs?

Just wanted to share a family member's experience with you.

God bless.  Hope you get answered prayer about this.

  9. You must understand that Protestants teach many false doctrines. Christianity has a wider meaning which Catholic and Orthodox churches understand and teach properly. Protestants picture God as a selfish being, who don't like us to respect anyone other than him. They also teach that he likes certain things and he does not like certain other things. No man can speak about God authentically. Anything is possible with him. He can do whatever he likes and no one can stop him or change him. Catholics and Orthodox Churches believe in the immense mercy of God and they don't put limits to God's likes and dislikes as Protestants do. They claim God does not listen to prayers for dead people; how do they know he does not listen? He spoke to them directly that he would not hear such prayers? They also say children should not be baptized; Jesus told his disciples to send children to him and not to hinder them, but Protestants say not to send them to him. You know that unless one is baptized, he can not become a part of Christ's body. If one should go to Christ, he must be baptized. Why are they denying it for kids then? There are a lot of such foolish and anti scriptural teachings by them. They are living in a world created by them, but far away from Christ. They are the ones who cause everyday lot and lots of people to turn to atheism.

You need to review your standards of belief here. Do not go by brain washing teachings. Read scriptures and understand facts by yourself.

  10. One of the things you would need to consider if you marry a Catholic is if you have children you must agree to raise them as Catholics, and receive the sacraments..Baptism, Communion.

  11. If you get down to brass tact's the you should marry in the same faith .

I guess a Catholic being a Christian will not lead to as many problems as marrying a non Christian who may lead you away from God.

  12. A believer in that sense is one who truly relies on the living God by having received His Life and living it.

This means you need to repent, be baptised and receive the Holy Spirit (evidenced by speaking in tongues), then be transformed daily by the truth he will lead you into.

Catholicism, like many others have de-nominated (broken up) this nominated way.

If you get it right, you will not "fall for" the wrong guy, you will have discernment about what's good.

  13. The Catholic Church is the Christian Church founded by Christ himself. Since Christ founded the Catholic Church and no other it would seem ridiculous that Christ would forbid any Christian from marrying a Catholic Christian. Remember the Scriptures are about the Catholic Church (NT) and written by the Catholic Church. They were subsequently even approved by  the Catholic Church. Being a part of the Catholic Church simply means that you receive a fullness of Christ's truth and less of the doctrines of men contained in non-Catholic Christianity. God bless!

  14. In My Humble Opinion, you would be better off with an "unbeliever" !

The very least you could do is convert him to a believer.

  15. I will be with a committed Christian that lives for Jesus Christ alone.

  16. Catholics aren't unbelievers, so don't worry about it.

  17. Depends has the catholic accepted Jesus as his savior? If he has then  that's o.k. If he hasn't accepted Jesus then regardless of whether they go to church/mass they are not saved. Warming a pew every Sunday won't get you into heaven, acceptance of Christ Jesus will.

  18. as i read all the posts i see the answers are clear as mud except one that says you are what you live not what you call yourself

    ;;

The fact remains that the definition of what a true christian is ...is what your really asking and you yourself might be decieved on that too.

    ..

but to answer your question if anyone follows the roman catholic teachings and is obedient to them then they become apostate as to the leadings of the Holy Spirit. Roman Catholics  and believers have little in common...........for an example catholics believe in the popery system and so the system of heirarchy is the main teaching but believers understand that the Holy Spirit is their leader, teacher and guide and that we all are brethren and that if anyone has authority over another ? it is out of humility in spirit and truth....but catholics value authority based on a political system of heirarchy with succession (erroronous).....and because they value popery they are blind to the fact that it usurps the position of the Holy Spirit and blocks Him out which leads to traditions and teachings that bluntly controdicts Gods word...

if you marry a true catholic and you are not one you shall cover yourself with a blanket of error

  19. Catholicism is but one of many "branches" that make up the body of Christ, the church.

However, in each church, one thing you can count on, is that not all are the wheat...some will be tares.

The differences will show themselves when the person is known. Their motivations will be different, their behaviors, their fruits. And it is by their fruits you will know them.

Yes, there are theological differences between each denomination, some usually over very slight matters, even over church polity!

But while God can judge whole churches, it is the individual that will stand, or fall, before God.

If the person has studied, and is walking closely with God, and not tied up into denominationalism (sectarianism) which was warned against in the scriptures*, there shouldn't be any huge problem.

  20. Read the story of St. Monica.  You could marry a non-believer but you will have to endure much more than marrying someone that shares your faith.  Then again, if your faith is your core value, you will find someone who's more compatible to your core value.

For non-believers, they would try to find compatibility of personality or back ground.  Shouldn't your value and faith be more of a factor when choosing your mate?

  21. If you believe that what the Bible does is give YOU rules, what does that say about the God you serve? That he is maybe setting you up for failure??? How about looking at that verse like this... If you believe in God and you believe Jesus died on the cross and rose again and left The Holy Spirit to dwell within us, that we could have faith that God would not send to us someone who is unequally yoked... I believe the Bible is full of promises from God... and not rules from God... It is all perception...

God loves you and has a plan for you... no decision you make will change the plan... it will just change the journey...

  22. Not all Catholics are Christians. Get to know what they peronally believe.

  23. Catholics are Christians.  Orthodox, Anglicans, Episcopalians, Lutherans, Methodists and other mainstream Protestants are also Christians.

Many of those who call themselves non-denominational, evangelical or born again Christians are fundamentalist cultists.  They are not really Christians because they do not follow Jesus but a caricature of Jesus created from their twisted interpretation of the Bible.
