Christians who hate the phrase 'happy holidays?'?

1. What do you have against New Year's day that you want people to wish people a Happy Christmas alone?

#2. Since we're only allowed to wish you one Merry or Happy Holiday at a time, I assume "Happy New Year" to refer to the eve and day and year are right out. At which point during New Year's Eve/Day does it cease to be acceptable to wish someone a Happy New Year's Eve and become acceptable to switch to Happy New Year's Day? Also, is baby New Year Baby New Year's Day or the whole year?

#3. What if we genuinely wish you to have a Happy New Year as well as a Merry Christmas and want to send you a card...should we send two cards?

#4. It doesn't seem like you are very happy during the holidays. Should be just say "have a nice day," instead, or does that oppress you, too?

  1. Bullwinkle traded in his signature palmate antlers with Rudolph's, so that he could lead Santa's Sleigh and give Rudolph a night off.  So now Bullwinkle is a merry ex-moose and a happy new deer.

  2. 1.  They are separate holidays

    2.  Most people just say Happy New Years  (no day or eve)

    3.  Who sends cards for New Years????

    4.  How do you know how happy I am at the holidays?

  3. On Christmas day wish a Merry Christmas, on New years day wish people a happy new year..

If sending a card, what's wrong with

I wish you a merry Christmas and a Happy new year?

I get enough PC out in the world, if a person is my friend they take my beliefs into consideration as I do theirs. Regardless of their beliefs.

  4. There are those that require that everything be Religiously Correct.

That includes Merry Christmas but ignores the Jewish high holidays.

As a Christian, I totally disagree.

Jesus was a person of inclusion, not of exclusion.

If you feel hatred for someone because of their religion, you can't feel the Love of God for everyone.

  5. I have no problem with happy holidays, since holidays means Holy-days anyway.  I just don't like it if I'm forced to say that instead of Merry Christmas because of political correctness.  People are just too easy to offend these days.  Of course, I'm not offended by anyone else's religious holidays or sayings.  It only seems to be christianity that gets this bad rap.

So, which people said that they were offended by the phrase "happy holidays?"  I bet you don't know anyone who has ever said this.

  6. Christianity has no crediability, its a religion that is lost and is not what it once use to be. That is why Allah, sent down Islam and my beautiful PROHPHET muhammad (sallahu aglahim was salamum) to guide this misguided ummah.

Jesus is not GOD!! Islam is the true and right path, if you don't believe me on the Day of Judgement when Jesus comes down, and you see him in the sky, he will clearly say, he is not God, then you guys will feel very stupid!

    Islam=truth

come back to islam children of Adam (PBUH)

  7. That is really funny. I am amused by your questions.

I believe Christians are saddened that Christmas is turning into a sectoral holiday and becoming X-mas. Even though Ironically an X is just another cross. Also, maybe people believe that Christ was important enough to be the main focus, at least a few times a year. Constantine actually picked the day to celebrate Christmas, replacing the celebration of a pagan holiday. (just thought that was interesting) The same for Easter. Maybe he should have chosen another time of year!

I always call everyone or wish them a happy new year, because of all the excitement that builds up for one single moment. Since I don't spend all month preparing for new years or wait all year for it, I don't bother to send a card. I don' think it is all that important and could go without even celebrating it. I do send Christmas cards and actually avoid the "happy holidays" cards as well. I want to make Christ the center of attention. Because I think he deserves it. I even find cards that reiterate the meaning of the holiday without trying to beat the meaning of Christmas into them.

I think the baby is a New Years baby for the rest of it's life. And you wish me a happy new year on the new years day, Jan. 1st.

If I am not very happy at Christmas, it is because I have had to buy presents that people don't really appreciate or need, because they won't stop buying me gifts and I don't have the guts to stop buying gifts for them. Even though I believe gifts take away from the meaning of the holiday, and I don't buy into the excuse that we give gifts because the wise men brought gifts to Jesus. That is why we should give gifts to him, not to each other. So, please, if I am grumpy during Christmas, just look me dead in the eye, say peace be with you, and leave me with a smile. ;)

  8. In England there was much celebrating of Christmas in Victorian times while the Scots did not celebrate it at all. They made merry at the New Year. As more English people moved into Scotland, Christmas celebrations came with them and grew in size and importance until now there is celebration of both days. The problem is that commercial interests are at back of all the card-sending, gift-giving and selling of food and booze. They want everybody to get legless on both occasions. And there are lots of silly people around who gladly oblige, thus boosting those commercial companies profits no end. Christians who love their Lord will not be gluttons or drunkards, and it wouldn't be a bad idea either if they boycotted the sending of cards because it's just a racket to line the pockets of the card companies. Why not send a letter, or an e-mail, or phone personally, giving whatever greeting you know the recipient will be happy with?

  9. I an atheist, but don't like the phrase, "Happy Holidays", especially as a means of not being offensive. It's Christmas, a celebration of a charming myth.I like the manger story, and the angles in the fields. It is...charming, if a little silly. Not the worse excuse to wish our fellows good will and peace on Earth.

  10. 1. We have nothing against New Year's day, we don't like Happy Holidays because the liberals are too afraid of stepping on a Jew, atheist, or muslims toes by calling the season what it really is and always has been Christmas.

    2. I really don't understand what you are asking. New Year's Eve ends on midnight of Janurary first, which is also a Holy Day of Obligation as being the Feast of the Mother of God.

    3. Why would you send two cards, before Christmas send one card that says have a nice Christmas and New Years.

    4. No, we are happy during that time.

  11. i say happy holidays because i'm jewish and when people say merry christmas to me and just assume i'm a christian it pisses me off.

  12. I say "Merry Christmas" unless I know the other person is not Christian, in which case I wish them Happy Holidays.

This Political Correctness is out of control and I'm sick and tired of it.

I make a point of knowing when the prime Jewish Holidays are and always make a point of making a few 'phone calls at Roshoshana.

That's when I say "Happy New Year" to my Jewish friends. They love it.! Then they get to hear it again at the end of the Calendar year.

The Jewish kids I grew up with, in the Dark Ages, loved it. They got to have BOTH.  We lowly Catholics were jealous!

If someone is offended by my wishing them a Merry Christmas in error I suggest they get over it and simply appreciate the sentiment.

Just as I would do if wished Happy Hanukkah!

    We have to STOP this.

    And what, exactly, is "crediability?"

  13. I send Christmas (or holiday sometimes if that's what I have) cards to my Christian friends.  I send Hannuakh cards to my Jewish friends.  I receive holiday, christmas, & hannukah cards & like them all !

I get annoyed when Jewish friends send me Christmas cards.  Also when my Christian housemates brought me a Christmas mug with trees & reindeer, etc. for Hannukah,  With all the great stuff out there, that was disrespectful to go out of the way to pick a Christmas image mug (& I suspected on purpose, given one of them.)

I don't like this attitude of just a subset of Christians, that my not practicing their religion is a problem for them to show respect for.

Otherwise -- it's all about...finding a parking space!  And saying what feels comfortable to the person who holds the door open for you on the way into the mall -- be it happy holidays or merry christmas or happy kwanza or Thank You!

    ================

You know, you'd think those subset of Christians would just be grateful that we're all forced to take our holiday time at their holidays.  I can't image a Jew that wouldn't prefer a break at High Holiday times in Sept/Oct!  Isn't Christmas supposed to include graditude?

  14. It is fine to wish me a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.  I have no problem with that.  My Holidays are Holy Days because of what Christ did for us by coming to earth that very first Christmas day.  That is why are hearts can be merry and think on the good things.  New Year brings to us new beginnings.  We can start with a clean slate.  It is all good.  Have a nice day - is a great salutation if it is heartfelt.  Empty Have a Nice Day's are kind of aggravating.

  15. I don't understand what the fuss is about. Say what ever you want! And everyone needs to stop getting offended at what people say! If someone wishes me Merry Christmas I gracefully accept it because they most likely really mean it. I will say Happy Yule. No one, NO one has ever given me grief. They smile like an idiot and spread the fantastic cheer and THAT is what is it's about any d**n ways. I DO say Happy Holidays because there are a lot of holidays and I want to include them all. Jewish, Islam, Pagan, secular. I don't care. It's a HAPPY TIME OF YEAR d**n IT!!!!!!

  16. God bless us, Everyone!

  17. I don't want to offend anyone, so I say happy holiday for all occasions to make sure.

If you are in the United States, have a happy holiday this Monday!

  18. I'm not a Christian and I still wish people a Merry Christmas.  If someone tells me they are of a different religion, I would wish them a Happy Something-Else, whatever that something else is.

  19. I think this year I will wish identifiable Christians a "Righteous Christmas", just to see what their reaction is.

  20. This is why I plan to switch my Christmastime greeting from "happy holidays" to "f*ck you". People tend to take both phrases the same way, so I might as well say what I really feel, right?
