So why couldn't the universe always have been there, why does it need to be created, but not god?

  1. What is matter made of though?

What sounds sillier..  a beginning..  or always being?

  2. Your second argument contradicts itself.  Matter's inability to be created or destroyed is a rule of science.  God does not abide by the rules of science.  Besides, if you you believe that something can always have been there, then why is the concept of a higher power so hard to accept?  It seems a lot more logical to me than simply saying that all of the matter in existence has always been here.

  3. God has no need to have been created, since He exists either outside time (where cause and effect do not operate) or within multiple dimensions of time (such that there is no beginning of God's plane of time).

Hence God is eternal, having never been created. Although it is possible that the universe itself is eternal, eliminating the need for its creation, observational evidence contradicts this hypothesis, since the universe began to exist a finite ~13.7 billion years ago.

The only possible escape for the atheist is the invention of a kind of super universe, which can never be confirmed experimentally (hence it is metaphysical in nature, and not scientific).

  4. Something that is not of this world cannot create things that are.>>>>

    Why is that? Do tell..

So, basically you're saying because you couldn't pull it off God can't either...So you are limiting God according to your imperfect understanding of His set laws. No Christian will ever be able to answer your question as to HOW God did this. You're still limiting His ability according to what YOU can accomplish and understand. If He exists outside the bounds of time and space, it's fair to say I think that He is much more capable than we can even begin to consider. You cannot create energy, that's still not to say He can't. This is a part of why we have such a hard time believing, because we can't get any further past our own limitations.

  5. Good point, keep asking.

  6. You cannot make the first law of thermodynamics say that, or you would have to also apply it to the origin theory of evolution.

So, you are basically saying that if God is eternal, the universe is eternal, which makes God as Creator a lie.  OR The earth is 4.5 billion years old and there is no Creator God.

And this seems logical to you.  You choose your logic, I choose the Bible.  Good luck.

  7. Hello. I'm not sure why or where your interest is coming from. And as for my answer here, I simply do not know. And won't know until I die and see for myself. A lot of times people don't really want to know the answers to these types of questions; not meaning you per say. But it's just an excuse to not want to believe. Or yet an attempt to frustrate people who do believe by never being satisfied with any answer given. If anybody truly desires to know God, they will find Him. We won't have the answers to all our questions right now. Paul said, that right now we know in part, but later (meaning when we die) we will know in full. God created us because He loves us. Kind of the same reason when two get married and decide to have children. We don't know how they will turn out once they are grown, but we loved each other so much we wanted to create that bond which results in a child. It pleased us to have children, the same as it pleased God to create us. But to explain God as no beginning and no end is an act of my faith. And when I die, I know that mystery will be solved!

  8. God is the creator of the universe and everything in it, therefore He is the only one Who knows why it has been created and the need of its creation. He created you alongside with it, so instead of questioning your Creator why this things have been done, why not just fulfill your purpose why He created you?

And by the way, God was not created.

    Other option, read the Bible.

  9. We don't know how he did it that is why he is God. He does things beyond our understanding. If a spiritual being that exists outside of space and time and the laws of physics didn't create the material that you ask about, then where did it come from? It makes more sense that a spiritual being created it than believing that it just came to be on it's own. One T gave a great answer.

  10. God is the highest thing our minds can imagine...the universe isn't...i choose God...

  11. "There's a difference between things material and immaterial." See TJ's response.

Of course, this is all outside the scope of science and reason. Go figure.

  12. It is clear that the universe has beginnings and endings, just as it is clear that God does not.

  13. Because the universe is a physical object and God is a spiritual being.

  14. It's because the universe operates under the laws of nature and thermodynamics which show that if the universe was eternal, it would have completely cooled down by now. Since it hasn't, it must have had a beginning...hence the flawed Big Bang theory. Mankind thought for many centuries that the universe is eternal...modern science has shown that it is not. Since there is no known "natural" means for mass/matter/energy to be created within the laws of nature, they must have had a "super-natural" or non-natural origin...that being an all-powerful and omniscient Creator...God. Any creator must have capabilities and characteristics which are beyond their creation....a person who creates a plane can read, write, see, talk, assemble parts, draw plans, gather materials, etc....things their creation cannot do.

Anything which has a beginning requires a cause and that cause is a Creator...God. Since God is eternal, exists outside of time and has no beginning...He created time itself...God requires no Creator Himself. If one chooses to argue who created God, Occam's Razor would suggest an infinite and eternal God Himself is more likely than an infinite number of Creator's of the Creator.

  15. Well I'm not Christian but I'll answer anyways.

This is an old question, I'm just gonna copy paste an answer I gave a long time ago.

The question was basically the same : why is it logical to say that God always existed but it's not logical to say the universe always existed?

    Answer:

It is way more logical to say that God has always existed than to say that universe always existed.

By saying the universe always existed you are not being logical and you are contradicting laws of science.

Everything physical must be created from something, this is a fact! no one has yet created something from nothing and I can assure you that no one will.

As an atheist I assume you believe scientists when they tell you that the earth is 13 billion years old and the universe is even older. You do understand the the universe has a certain age right? then how is it logical that it always existed???

It has an age, and that age is the time that passed since it's creation or formation until now. So we know that the universe did not aways exist.

Why is it logical that God always existed?

Because it is not logical that God did not always exist.

    I'll explain..

We know that anything physical must be created at some point in time, we also know that it must come from somewhere or something...everything is made out of something! so if we go back to the very first particle, or speck of matter or whatever it was we still need something to exist before it so it can be made or created.

Claiming the universe always existed is not logical as I explained before and claiming it was created or formed from nothing means that something was made out of nothing and we know this isn't possible.

The only way for the first physical thing to be created is for something before it to exist and this something needs to be outside of time because otherwise it would need to be created itself.

When there is no time there is no beginning therefore there is no need for creation.

This thing that exists outside of time is called God.

Your real question should be why is it possible for God to be outside of time but its' not possible for the universe to be outside of time?

No scientist or intelligent person for that matter has ever claimed such a thing simply because we exist in a dimension of time and so does the universe, it simply cannot be.

The first thing that ever existed needs to be outside of time otherwise it would need to be created itself, if u exists outside or time you were never created therefor u always existed, we know the universe cannot exist outside of time so the universe can not have always existed, this leaves us only with one option. God!

The person who asked this question had some points to debate on, I'm gonna let you think for yourself.

  16. The universe always existing denies the laws of science.  Our understanding of time shows that there must be a beginning.  Only by metaphysical means can something always have existed which is beyond the natural.  And what does metaphysical mean- that which transcends science.  I think that the concept of time is proof for God's existence.  We have no way of explaining time going infinitely in the past direction.  Our minds believe that there must be a beginning but how could there be when there must of been something before it.  This is where the supernatural comes in to play.  Time is an instrument of God's.  In the spiritual realm there is no time.

  17. agreed

  18. There is knowledge or laws that the universe is based upon. Ever seen random truth?

The universe is the mind of God.

We've already seen that the law of the conservation of energy has been altered. Matter can be transformed to energy.

The laws I refer to are not man's laws of science, but God's spiritual laws.

  19. The universe wasn't always there.  We are living in this universe, but there are other universes. I think that God was always there, and man just recognized what already was

  20. They are the same thing in my eyes. The universe exploded out of the godhead

Energy cannot be created or destroyed. That tells me that everything is one. There is no such thing as death, there is only change. To quote Bill Hicks all matter is energy condensed to a slow vibration. Materialism is an illusion itself

  21. because the universe abides by the strictures of time and space, God does not. email me if you want to know more
