Christin Tsai beats Nicole Grether to claim Women’s Singles title at XVIII Peru International 2013
Canada’s emerging player Christin Tsai surprised everyone on the final day when she stunned the top seed Nicole Grether and wrapped up Women’s Singles title at the XVIII Peru International 2013 on Sunday, April 14, in Peru.
The aggressive Tsai, who was the fourth seed in the tournament, played to her maximum abilities in the arena and remained successful in giving a severe lesson to her higher ranked compatriot in the final contest and won it in just 40 minutes.
Tsai was in smashing form on the final day as she played attacking badminton without showing any mercy to her higher ranked rival and grabbed a comprehensive victory by finishing off the match with a staggering margin of 21-11 and 21-12.
On the contrary, the top seed Nicole was not expecting such a tremendous display of positive and attacking game from her lower ranked opponent. She could not cope up with the growing pressure and eventually lost the match in straight sets in a humiliating
manner.
The amazing speed and powerful strokes of Tsai favoured her to take control of the affairs from the opening points of first game.
The speed of the rallies was quite fast in opening game and Tsai entertained local crowd with her lofty skills all the way in the starting game.
Until the end of first half of opening set, the in-form Tsai obtained a strong position on board by taking a sufficient lead.
The higher ranked Nicole failed to play positive game after the one-minute break as she lost her focus in the arena and also could not manipulate the loopholes of her team-mate.
Tsai continued employing powerful shots in targeted areas and took the opening game with an inspiring difference of 21-11.
Nicole geared up her speed to play positive badminton in the starting part of second game but she failed to pile up pressure on her rival.
Until the one-minute break, the lofty Tsai continued playing with control and variations and remained ahead on score board.
The planned and positive play in the ending half of second set assisted Tsai to grab the set with a comfortable 21-12 margin on the board.
