Christina McHale rallies past Lesya Tsurenko - Fed Cup WG Play-offs 2012
Christina McHale led her country took a 1-0 lead after overpowering Ukraine’s Lesya Tsurenko in a three set thriller at the Fed Cup World Group Play-off 2012 on Saturday. She joggled up a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 success against the Ukrainian
number one at this International clay court event hosted by Ukraine.
The American number two displayed tremendous skills and abilities to outfox Tsurenko in three sets. Both countries are facing each other for the first time and after bagging this match, McHale led her country take the initial lead.
McHale made a sluggish entry at the Superior Golf and Spa Resort in Kharkiv and suffered the first blow in the opening game However, she made a fitting reply and went on a six-game killing spree, ultimately sealing the opener with
a breadstick.
Ranked 110th in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Tsurenko on the other side of net re-structured in the second set. She earned the desiderated break in the fourth game and jumped to a 3-1 lead. Apart from
losing her serve in the very next game, she held her nerves and clicked another break opportunity in the last game to pull out the equaliser with a 6-4 win.
The 19-year-old found her rhythm again in the final set which matter the most. She leaped at 3-0 with two breaks of serve. Regardless of losing her serve in the fourth game, McHale swiped in her remaining serves and capitalised
on her third break chance to pocket the decider with a 6-3 success.McHale’s victory was followed by her veteran compatriot, Serena Williams, who crushed Elina Svitolina, with a breadstick. The Former world number one flashed her old self to extend lead of
her country by 2-0 against the Ukrainian team. She wiped out nine games in a row before bagging the deal in straight sets. Williams made a strong start and after drawing the first blood, she jumped to a 2-1 lead. Despite squandering her edge in the very next
game, the American veteran went on a four-game tear to register an assuring 6-2 score line. She kept momentum rolling into the following set and stroke out the opening five games successively, eventually clinching the set with a superb 6-1 score line.
