Christine Magnuson and Margo M Geer win Women’s 50m freestyle gold – Southwest Classic Invitational
Christine M Magnuson of Ford Aquatics-AZ and Margo M Geer of Arizona-AZ secured a joint finish and won gold medal of the Women’s 50m freestyle at the 2012 Southwest Classic Invitational in Tucson, Arizona on Saturday, May 5.
The 26-year-old Magnuson went full rampant in the single lap freestyle discipline but her efforts were matched by Geer in the second half of the race and both swimmers tapped the wall with an identical effort to capture gold medal of the event.
With her invincible efforts, the duo sprinted their way towards the finishing wall for gold medal by clocking a wonderful time of 26.37 seconds.
They were followed by Kait R Flederbach of Arizona-AZ, who stayed 0.37 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing end for bronze medal by submitting a nice time of 26.74 seconds.
The third position holder was trailed by Lara M Jackson of Ford Aquatics-AZ, who suffered a deficit of 0.23 seconds from her former finisher and posted a time of 26.97 seconds for fourth position.
Following that, the audience witnessed gruelling efforts of Jackson’s teammate, Leone Vorster, who remained marginally slower from her foregoing finisher and clocked a time of 27.06 seconds for fifth best spot of the place.
The 24-year-old Vorster was followed by Samantha Guttmacher of MAC-AZ, who tried hard to overwhelm her foregoing finisher but remained just 0.01 seconds slower from her over the finishing end and secured sixth position of the event with an effort of 27.07 seconds.
Seventh position of the discipline was obtained by Emma K Darlington of Arizona-AZ, who remained 0.21 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end by reporting a time of 27.28 seconds.
Last spot of the race was secured by Shannon N Landgrebe of ASU-AZ, who was just 0.08 seconds slower from her former finisher and ended her swim in eighth best place with the timing of 27.36 seconds.
In addition, the arena applauded for forceful efforts of all participants in the 50m discipline while the position holders collected medals and accolades for their notable efforts at the medal distribution ceremony after the session.
