Christine Pedersen snags Women’s 200m back-stroke in Drammen: Day four – Norway Long Course Championships
Christine Pedersen secured a scintillating victory in the Women’s 200m back-stroke event, on the fourth day of the Norway Long Course Championships held in Drammen, Norway, on Tuesday, July 12.
In another interesting battle, Lars Andre Tolas, Alexander Dale Oen, Oystein Hetland and Aleksander Hetland earned the gold medal in the Men’s 400m medley relay meet.
Pedersen out-touched Veronia Orheim Bjorlykke and Gina Andersen in a time of 2 minutes and 20.44 seconds to nab the Women’s 200m back-stroke title. Meanwhile, Orheim Bjorlykke wound up second in 2 minutes and 22.02 seconds, whereas, Andersen earned third
place honours in a time of 2 minutes and 22.38 seconds.
In the second race, the group of four swimmers including Tolas, Dale Oen, Hetland and Hetland secured the gold medal in the Men’s 400m medley relay with a sterling time of 3 minutes and 47.23 seconds.
Earlier, Cecilie Johannessen won three races with her dominating effort in the championship. She won the Women’s 50m, 100m and 800m freestyle events on the trot. Johannessen grabbed the Women’s 100m freestyle meet in 55.99 seconds, whereas, Henriette Brekke
wound up second in 56.78 seconds. The third place went to Susann Bjornsen in 56.92 seconds.
Additionally, Johannessen captured the Women’s 50m freestyle in 25.96 seconds. Susann Bjornsen finished second in 26.30 seconds and Henriette Brekke settled third in 26.43 seconds.
Furthermore, she clinched the Women’s 800m freestyle relay crown with a winning time of 8 minutes and 54.08 seconds, while Elin Slaatmo was placed second in 8 minutes and 55.83 seconds. Lise Sand Syversen wound up third in 9 minutes and 04.88 seconds.
The Men’s 800m freestyle relay title was taken over by Gard Kvale in 8 minutes and 26.79 seconds. Meanwhile, Morten Bordervich wound up second in 8 minutes and 27.86 seconds, whereas, Oscar Slaatmo settled third in a time of 8 minutes and 27.90 seconds.
The event is a golden opportunity for contestants to prepare themselves well for the upcoming 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China. With the event to commence on July 16, it is very important for swimmers to find form before the important meet.
