Christinna Pedersen, Kamilla Rytter Juhl secure a quarter-final berth in 2012 Li Ning China Open
Women’s Doubles team Christinna Pedersen-Kamilla Rytter Juhl of Denmark continued their successful run and marched into the quarter-finals of Li Ning China Open on November 15, 2012.
They overwhelmed Poon Lok Yan-Tse Ying Suet of Hong Kong in the second round of this Super Series.
This epic tussle lasted for one hour before ending with final figures of 18-21, 21-18 and 21-16. Both teams earned a great deal of admiration for displaying commendable fighting spirit in the local badminton arena of Shanghai.
The Danish shuttlers had a horrendous start as they had to face a severe blow in the first set but they did not lose heart and locked the honour by prevailing in the ending two games.
On the other hand, Lok Yan and Ying Suet frittered away a golden opportunity of a straight-set victory and crashed out in a woeful manner.
They alarmed their rivals by winning first set with distinction. In this crucial game, they launched a brisk attack and pushed the opposing shuttlers on the back-foot with 8-4 total.
The Hong Kong players did not lose focus at any stage and swept the table with a significant margin of 21-18.
However, the story was entirely different in the following game as the twosome of Christinna and Kamilla revived their lost touch and brought the contest to right balance.
They established a strong grip with 6-2 total and relished full benefits of this early advantage to pile up a mountainous figure of 11-5 before the interval.
After the mid-game break, they made some mistakes which ultimately weakened their grip but then a few back-to-back productive rallies reinstated their dominance in third quarter of the set.
The Danish players showed superior finishing skills and bagged this crucial match point with 21-18 score.
Third set kept the audience intact just until the one-minute break as it proved a dead contest in the second half.
Though, Christinna and Kamilla remained at the lower end until 13-11 but they managed to tip the scale in their favour with 21-16 margin.
Now they are scheduled to meet Narissapat Lam-Saralee Thoungthongkam in round of eight of China Open.
