OK I know it's barley the first day of Aug. but having 5 kids I get in the shopping game early and there are usually good deals right around now in stores as it's time to restock...... Anyway I waswondering what you all spend per child on x-mas, what kind of things do you all get??? I usualy do pretty weel we try to spend $200-$250 per child which does stretch far.....but they are always pleases so it's worked so far but as they get older things get more expensive and it seems prices of everything are on the rise at the moment anyway!

I try to get a BIG gift for each kid every year or at least that one thing they've been asking for since summer ya know....this year for big gifts I'm getting a kitchen w/ accessories for my youngest, a basketball goal for my oldest son, and a new bike for my middle child.....I am stumped on my other 2......I will get them what they ask for but I hate to let 3 of the kids get a gift that looks really big and not have the same for the other 2......as they really don't understand that something small could be the same in cost.......I am wondering if you all have any ideas?? If it helps the oldest is 9yr old girl and the other is a 4 yr old boy.........

  1. WE have 5 children also. WE too try to spend about 1000 or so total. Usually more around 1500. But we tend to only worry about the amount of gifts being even not the dollar amount. Because the older ones want more expensive items and the younger ones want items that are cheaper. Our oldest will be 12 in a few days and the baby will be 6 in a few days.

Not sure what to suggest for yours, mine are hard enough to buy for!

  2. I know what you mean about the size of the present being the actual size of the present not the cost of it. I don't know where you live, but in the winter, is a sledge worth having. You could buy that, fill it with a hat, gloves, scarf etc, and wrap it all in a bundle- that would seem like a good present- if you get something and fill it with other things, like a kitchen WITH accessories, it's always better than just a kitchen. Like for the bike, you could include a helmet? What about rollar skates for your daughter? Those are quite an impressive present.

We normally spend about £100-£150 unless they want something really special. Now they are older it's more technology based things. Last year, my middle one got a new ipod as her old one got stolen, my oldest got a new ipod dock thing, and my youngest got a pair of rollar skates. When they were younger, we did spend less, and it was more new tricyles, one year a guitar, things like that.

    Good luck!

  3. 9yr get a $50 ipod from wal-mart my little get one for her 9 B-day she love it.

  4. I always by clothing for those who are into clothes and a few DVD's for each.

  5. if the other 2 dont have a bike u could get them one 2...or something similar like a tricycle

  6. I have two daughters with a son due in 3 weeks. Last Christmas we spent about $400.00 on each of our children. This year I think the plans call for $300 to $350 since we will have three children. I try to spend about $1000 on my family, then about $600 on my nieces and nephews. We spend about $50 on each of them and I have 10 nieces and nephews.

  7. How are we supposed to tell you what to get your kids for Christmas?  We have no idea what their likes and dislikes are.  You've already made two additional comments of No, I can't get them that.  Come on! They're your kids - what do they like or want?  When my child was 4 she was already giving me a list for Santa Clause.  Made my life pretty easy.

  8. maybe my dream life or some sort of computer game...My daughter got a nintendo ds when she was 9

ipod when she was 10, digita camera when she was 9

I spend around 300 or so-One big gift and smaller ones-gift cards etc,

I totally disagree about spending 500-That is way too much.

  9. We've been so stumped on x-mas gifts too... our kids also have their birthdays on either side of x-mas- one is two weeks before, and the other is two weeks after, so it is like buying for four kids at once.  We have started doing "experiences" instead of gifts.  Like, we took the girls to this place called Libby Lu, where they got little girl makeovers (makeup, fancy hairdos).  They had a blast!  Another year, we took them to Medieval Times.  This year, we will be taking them to the American Girl store to get outfits for their dolls.  We just have been trying to eliminate so much "stuff" in the house, as well as give them a unique experience instead of "things" that will end up broken or missing.  It cuts back on the need for so many material items, as well as gives other people ideas of things to go with the event, instead of just more toys.  Kind of go with ideas of things your child likes, and try to find something you can do as an event.  We even started doing this for the adults too- my husband went for an airplane ride, and I have gone to Sea World to be a "trainer for a day".  We just have everyone in the family pitch in to get the event.
