  1. I don't think so either.  Especially if you are looking for Christmas tree ornaments and stuff like that.  And here's why:

The way we Americans usually celebrate Christmas is through Germanic origins.  The French don't celebrate Christmas the way Americans and Germans do.  It is more a RELIGIOUS holiday than a shopping and COMMERCIAL holiday.

The French celebrate more on St. Nicholas day and New Year's Eve.

The celebration of Christmas in France varies by region. Most provinces celebrate Christmas on the 25th of December, which is a bank holiday. However, in eastern and northern France, the Christmas season begins on 6 December,  la fête de Saint Nicolas, and in some provinces  la fête des Rois* is one the most important holidays of the Christmas season. In Lyon, 8 December is  la Fête de lumières, when Lyonnais pay hommage to the virgin Mary by putting candles in their windows which light up the village.

The modern custom of erecting a Christmas tree can be traced to 16th century Germany,

If you want to see some really great Christmas stores with Christmas tree ornaments, and ornate decorations,  go to GERMANY!!! Kathe Wohlfahrt is a good start. Check out this webpage: www.wohlfahrt.com

  2. I don't think so...at least I don't remember seeing anything like that on any of my trips.  Also, my French teacher had trouble finding even a Christmas carol CD immediately after Christmas.  She said they had all been packed up and put away in the stock room, but a clerk was willing to bring some CDs out for her to look at.

  3. I agree with Gene S.  Also go to Austria for maybe some after Christmas things, too....
