Question:

Christmas in July Party Ideas?

by  |  earlier

I'm having a Christmas in July party this year, inviting about 16 teenage friends of mine. I have trees and music covered, but as far as other deccorations, games/activities, and especially food goes I would appreciate suggestions.

Notes:

-I have a pool, so swimming can and probably will be involved some time during the party

-I'm vegetarian, so please no ham/turkey dinner suggestions! :)

  1. Of course you can't forget the egg nog. Most stores don't carry it in the summer so you will have to make it from scratch. Here's one recipe.

    1 dozen Medium Eggs

    1 cup Sugar

    1 ½ quarts Milk

    1 pint Heavy Cream, whipped

    Powdered nutmeg

Up to 750-ml of alcohol if desired

Separate eggs, beat yolks in large serving bowl, adding sugar while beating. Stir in milk and cream. If using alcohol, slowing add and then refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Before serving, whip egg whites stiff. Mix into eggnog, dust with nutmeg.

Bake a couple of your love's favorite holiday goodies. Put a few presents under the tree. Turn the air conditioner on high and light a crackling fire in the fireplace while listening to your favorite Christmas tunes.

Write your guest list. Pick a date and send invitations to your relaxed, fun-loving friends and family members who are willing to play with tradition. Inviting at least eight people will ensure you have plenty of conversation and laughter at your party.

Plan and prepare the food. While you could serve traditional Christmas food, you may want to try lighter fare for your summertime Christmas celebration. Try wine coolers instead of mulled wine, star fruit instead of star cookies and barbecued turkey dogs instead of roast goose.

Decorate with a mix of traditional Christmas and non-traditional Christmas items. Twinkling white lights are always appropriate and look lovely with a Christmas garland made by tying wrapped candies to red ribbon. Red and white striped table linens will add a Christmas touch to your party. Use red and white flowers for your centerpieces with lots of greenery and add twinkling candles to increase the festive feeling.

Prepare Christmas in July party favors for your guests to take home. Stuff miniature Christmas stockings with sunglasses and lotion or fill a small beach bucket with Christmas candies, ornaments and candles.

Organize a few games. Play limbo or have each guest bring an inexpensive gift and have a gift exchange.

    2 cups all-purpose flour

    1 teaspoon baking soda

    1/4 teaspoon salt

    additional sugar

    Preparation:

Microwave chocolate and margarine in large microwavable bowl on high 2 minutes or until margarine is melted. Stir until chocolate is completely melted. Stir 1 cup sugar into melted chocolate mixture until well blended. Stir in egg and vanilla until completely blended. Mix in flour, baking soda and salt. Refrigerate 30 minutes. Heat oven to 375 F. Shape dough into 1" balls; roll in additional sugar.

Alternately, roll out to 1/4" thick and cut with cookie cutters. Place, 2" apart, on ungreased cookie sheets. TRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS CAKE RECIPE This traditional Christmas cake recipe is a great favourite. The rich cake can be served cold or hot with custard or double cream. Ensure this cake is made 3 weeks before Christmas, and then ice one week before the occasion.

    Ingredients:

    12 oz plain flour

    1 tsp. cinnamon

    1 tsp. mixed spice

    ½ tsp. salt

    4 oz candied peel

    4 oz cherries

    2 lb. Dried fruit

    4 oz blanched almonds

    4 eggs

    4 tbsp. sherry

    Finely grated 1 lemon

    8 oz margarine

    8 oz sugar

    1 tbsp. black treacle

    Preparation:

Sieve together all the dry ingredients. Mix the peel, fruit, cherries, chopped almonds and lemon rind. Whisk the eggs and sherry together. Cream the margarine, sugar and black treacle until soft. Add the flour and egg mixtures alternately to the margarine. Stir in the fruit mixture. Put into an 8-9 inch tin, lined with greaseproof paper round the sides and at the bottom. Tie a double band of brown paper round the outside of the rim, standing well up above the top of it. Put in the middle of a hot oven. Bake for 31/4-31/2 hours at gas mark 3 for the first 11/2 hours, and then decrease to gas mark 2 for the remainder. Cool the cake in the tin, then store in an airtight container.

  3. There's SO much you can do!

Get the clear stringed Christmas lights and hang them all around the party area.  They are festive, and Christmas like and they will add a really nice touch to the party!

For food, do whatever you do during your regular holiday dinners!  Whatever you and your family have do that here.  You can even ask each friend to bring a favorite dish from their family's table.  That would make it really fun to see what each of your friends has for dinner during their holidays and what their food traditions are like.  You can assign some of them side dishes and some of them desserts, etc.  This way you don't have all side dishes or all main dishes, etc. Split it up so everyone has a different dish, OR ask them what they would like to do this way it gets them more excited about bringing a dish from their family's table.  One friend may have an appetizer that's different from everyone else's, one may have a dessert, etc. then you'll have a great spread of foods and you may even find that you have a Christmas dinner from around the world!  How cool would that be?!!  You can also ask them to do something that has you mind for diet needs too.

You can also go through your familiy's holiday decorations and use them to decorate your party with.  Use some ornaments, use red and white streamers and make candy canes around the area.  You can take any poles around the party area, wrap white wrapping paper around them or the white streamers and then use the red streamers to make the stripes and turn them into big candy canes.  Use your family's holiday decorations if your parents allow you.

You can also get red and white balloons, and green too and put them around the party area.  Cluster them in the corners of the party area.  Use red and white streamers and put them around the party area.  Make it like Santa's house!

You can also get some wood birdhouses at the craft store and decorate them to look like gingerbread houses, or make that an activity at the party, do a contest!  Get some paints, glitter, ribbon, and some trimmings and have everyone decorate a house!

For the pool, you can put some red and white beach balls in the pool like hard candies!

You can also make igloos out of sugar cubes and hold them together with icing, and get some toy penguins and put them around the igloos.

You can get the white and red round paper lanterns and hang them from the ceiling of the party area.

You can get some cotton batting and put it down on the ground of the party area, just make sure it's on the side of the tables and off to the sides of the area where no one will step on it, so no one will trip, it will make great snow!!  You can get the cotton batting at the crafts store in the sewing section in bags.

For games, you can do the decorating the house, you can do Reindeer games which would be relay races like potato sack races, relay races etc.  You can get an inflatable kiddie pool, fill it with water, break into 2 teams and have a tug of war, the losing team ends up the pool! These can all be called Reindeer games!

You can do name that Christmas Carol, and read a line of a Christmas Carol and everyone has to guess which song it's from, the person to guess the most right wins!

You can do name that Christmas show, and you can pick characters from certain Christmas cartoons and shows and the person to get the most right wins, or even do quotes, like, who said, "I want to be a dentist"   The answer to that is Herbie the Elf from Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.  You can do things like that, and either quote the shows or ask where they were from, like the land of misfit toys they were from Rudolph too, then there's Charlie Brown's Christmas, you can even do whoever can name the most shows, there's also The Grinch that Stole Christmas, there's Frosty, etc. there are SO many that you can take qoutes from or characters that you can take quotes from!

You can also hang stockings around the party area since that's a tradition, have trees up, hang stars and snowflakes from the ceilings, use red tablecloths with green napkins for a festive look.

You can even put some glitter on the tables as Reindeer dust, hang pictures of santa, hang some ornaments around the party area, and then have red and white balloons, and red and white streamers.  You can even hang banners that say Merry Christmas!

I hope some of these ideas help and that you and your friends have a great party!!
