Christmas wish list for English Premier League clubs part 1
The English Premier League season is nearing the half way mark and the league table is looking very tight with only a couple of points separating the sides and the top spot being switched regularly; this certainly promises to be the tightest title race in
recent history.
Christmas is round the corner and with teams winning and losing in almost equal measure the clubs will be running to Santa with their Christmas wish lists, some would want new players, some new managers and some will just wish for some points. But everyone
is aware of the fact that the mid season transfer window is notoriously expensive and nothing would be available for cheap clubs and for clubs playing in the continental competition the Cup-tied players is also a problem.
Here is a Christmas wish list for some the English Clubs:
Arsenal
The gunners have enjoyed a decent season so far; they currently occupy the 2nd spot in the league and they remain in the thick of things as far as the title race is concerned.
Arsene Wenger has a strict transfer policy when it comes to buying new players and he has been notoriously choosy when it comes to buying defender but there is no doubt about the fact that he needs reinforcements at the back and with Vermalen injured he
certainly can’t rely on Squillaci and Koscielny to last him without causing considerable damage to his team’s title aspirations.
Goal keeping is another department that needs fresh impetus at Arsenal and although their third choice goal keeper with an impossible to spell name looked promising against Manchester United but he is still only 20 and that is infancy in goal keeping years.
On Arsenals wish list this Christmas this year there will be:
A solid new goal keeper A couple of Centre backs
Aston Villa
Aston Villa enjoyed a remarkable season under Martin O’Neil last season where they finished 6th in the league and it was the departure of James Milner to Manchester City that caused a few problems for them, first O’Neil walked out on the club
and Gerrard Houllier came in but under Houllier the villains have failed to emulate the same form as last year and have been struggling in the season so far.
Altough players like Seamus Coleman and Marc Albrighton has stepped up to the plate this season but they have been far from impressive on the pitch and there is no doubt about the fact that they need some new players.
Villa’ top priority this January will be to keep hold of Ashley Young, who has no shortage of suitors and with clubs willing to test Villa’s resolve with big cheques, they certainly face uncertain times ahead.
On Aston Villa's wish list this Christmas there will be three things:
Not to let Ashley Young leave the club A striker that can bag in some goals A new midfield play maker
Birmingham City
After being promoted to the top flight in English football the Birmingham City blues enjoyed a fantastic first season back in the top division finishing in the top half of the table with 9th position. This season however, their away form has been
terrible and mainly due to that they find themselves in the bottom half of the table flirting with the relegation zone.
Birmingham FC have a fairly decent side and in Ben Foster they have found a decent replacement for Joe Hart and their back four are pretty sold too but they need creativity in the midfield.
Only recently it emerged that Sebastian Larsson will not be renewing his contract with the club and if that happens it will be a big blow to Alex Mcleish’s side.
On Birmingham's wish list this Christmas there will be:
To Pursue Sebastian Larson to remain at the club To improve their form on the road A paced winger and a creative midfielder
