The Schalke defender has admitted that Schalke will miss http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-c30652 after the Spaniard’s decision to leave the club by the end of this season.
Schalke centre back, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 international will be badly missed
by the club but it will also present the other youngsters with a chance to prove their worth.
The defender stated that Raul is an asset to any club and wished him success for the future. He told that the striker’s services will definitely be missed and Schalke will soon need to find a proper replacement in order to take
their current run of form into the next season.
Metzelder mused that it would have been ideal for the club to retain Raul beyond this season. He reckons that it will not be an easy task to find the attacker’s replacement who earned himself tremendous respect during these two
years at the club.
While talking to reporters ahead of his side’s upcoming league fixture against FC Augsburg, the German international further added:
"From day one, others have looked at him with great respect in the dressing room. Raul will certainly be part of the club's history. He will certainly be missed, not only because of his quality, but also his reputation. But he
will now offer the chance to other players to fill this gap."
Raul’s contract will expire at the end of this season after which he will be available on a free transfer. The veteran striker will possibly continue his career outside Europe citing family reasons. The Schalke officials offered
Raul a new one-year deal which was not accepted by the attacker as he wished to prolong his stay for two years rather extending his deal by a year.
