The veteran star had to overcome a number of serious injuries and added that his body cannot
cope with the rigours of the game.
The experienced player became famous at Borussia Dortmund and because of that was snapped up by Real Madrid in 2007. However, he could not fully enjoy his time at the Santiago Bernabeu as he faced a host of injuries in Madrid.

health insurance company claiming that he could not play the game again.
“I was very close to having to end my career back then - I still have a letter from my health insurance company declaring I was unable to play sport again,” the 33-year-old centre-half was quoted as saying in an interview.
The centre-back further added he was just 23 then and that is why he was able to stage a comeback. He said that he enjoyed a lot of amazing years as he took part in the 2006 FIFA World cup along with the 2008 European championships.
“I was only 23, but I fought my way back and experienced many great years, including participating in the 2006 World Cup and Euro 2008,” he added.
“I look back with gratitude on a fantastic career. I passed my A-levels when I was 19 and, two weeks later, I was making my debut in the Bundesliga,” he finally concluded.
On the other hand, he is happy to have such a successful career. He revealed that he was 19 when he cleared his A-levels and was lucky to play his first ever top flight Bundesliga game two weeks after that.
