Christoph Sauser & Burry Stander wins the opening stage of the Cape Epic 2012
Christoph Sauser and Burry Stander of Team 36 One-Songo-Specialized shined during the opening stage of the Cape Epic 2012.
The duo cruised across the finish-line in the best time and overcame their major competitors. They covered the total distance of 27 kilometres in the fastest time of 1 hour, 11 minutes and 52 seconds to grab his first victory of the season.
David George and Kevin Evans of Team 360Life fell 13 seconds short to grab the second positions while Alban Lakata and Robert Mennen finished at the third position.
Stander briefed after the race, “We were hoping to get more time in the prologue like we’ve done in previous years, but Nedbank 360Life have upped their game for sure”.
“We went has hard as we could. I took a small tumble and Christoph almost crashed, but after that we tried to relax and it seemed to help”.
He also mentioned that there is still a long way to go and the prologue is just a small stage of the race. However, he briefed that the victory has set the pace for them to dominate the remaining stages of the race.
The South African quoted, “The win today didn’t come as easy as before. But the other teams are going to have to show they want to take the lead tomorrow. We’ll be very vigilant of course. We’re prepared for a hard week of racing”.
Burry thanked the crowd for their support during the first day of racing. He mentioned that the crowd made them feel special during the opening prologue of the race.
Udo Boelts and Milena Landtwing succeeded during the mixed category of the race.
Erik Kleinhans & Ariane Kleinhans finished 1 minute and 12 seconds behind at the second position.
Russell De Jager & Andrea Huser and Klaas Vanmoortel & Inne Gantois occupied the third and the fourth spots at the mixed category of the race.
Robert Sim & Nico Pfitzenmaier dominated the master’s category of the race with Adrian Enthoven & Delaney Impey finishing 3 minutes and 57 seconds behind at the second position.
Christoph Sauser & Burry Stander are leading the men general classifications after the first stage of the race with Kevin Evans & David George at the second position.
