Christoph Syrch intercepts Matej Polacek in qualification round of 2012 Victor Slovak Open
Men’s Singles campaigner Christoph Syrch of Austria registered his mark in Victor Slovak Open as he stamped Matej Polacek and cleared first hurdle in qualification round on September 6, 2012.
This 41-minute tussle, staged at Presov in Slovakia, prolonged to three exhausting sets before ending with final result of 21-14, 10-21 and 21-15.
The victorious shuttler prevailed in the opening and closing games of the match as he setup his next clash with the higher ranked Bulgarian player Sarkis Agopyan in second stage of the qualification round.
Meanwhile, the native shuttler disappointed his supporters as he could rise only in the second set of the match.
Christoph laid the foundation of his dominance by thrashing his rival in very first set. He played impeccable badminton and swept the table with a huge difference of seven points in the concluding margin.
In first half of the set, Christoph established an unassailable lead by claiming valuable points in a row and capitalised this early advantage in later part of the game.
He did not lose this touch at any stage and kept his challenger at lower end all the way to final moments.
The Slovakian player made every effort to come out of this bad patch but he could not hit the mark and knelt down after reading 14-21 score on the board.
However, Matej Polacek managed to rise from the dust in very next game and brought the contest to the right balance.
This time he employed interesting tactics and confounded his competitor in a commendable manner.
He started the beating from the very first stroke and kept the bird under his control until last shot was played. He maintained a significant eleven-point advantage and survived this segment of the showdown with 21-10 margin.
The decider locked both contenders in a tough competition as both were just one knock away from a next round entry or a woeful exit.
Though, they remained close on points table until one-minute break but then Christoph switched on his best and sealed his 2-1 victory.
He finished the first half with a respectable score position of 11 and then blew away his opponent with a staggering knock of 21-15.
