Christophe Clement throws in two of his best for an Arlington Park double on 13 August, 2011
Trainer Christophe Clement will look to make history this year, when he tries to land both, the Arlington Million and the Beverly D Stakes in the same year. It is possible because there has been trainers who have landed these two races, but not in the same
year.
Christophe Clement is among those six trainers who have placed in the two fixtures separately, and in different time, but this time around he is sending out his ace six-year-old horse, Gio Ponti, for the Grade 1 Arlington Million and the 4-year-old filly
Cheetah to run in the Grade 1 Beverly D Stakes.
The intentions are clear from the champion trainer, and he has at least a chance to win both races on 13 August, 2011 at Arlington Park.
The son of Tale of the Cat out of Chipeta Springs by Alydar, Gio Ponti won the fixture back in 2009. It was an incredible streak of wins as the six-year-old blasted past her opponents and won four races in a row, and all grade 1 races.
The Grade 1 Arlington Million broke her hot winning streak, but he won the race under Ramon Dominguez at Arlington Park turf, run over at a distance of 1 ¼ miles.
The pair covered the distance in 2 minutes and 4.19 seconds. It was a glorious year for Gio Ponti, and this year he has run two races, finished on the cards.
Third place finish in the Grade 1 Manhattan Handicap at Belmont Park turf on 11 June, 2011. It was also run at a distance of 1 ¼ miles, and under jockey Ramon Dominguez, the pair couldn’t catch up Mission Approved and Bim Bam.
His next race was the Grade 1 Man O’ War Stakes, he also won the edition of the race back in 2009, but this time around he got narrowly defeated by the Irish raider, Cape Blanco.
The Aidan O’Brien trained Cape Blanco is a probable for the Arlington Million, and the two Man O’ War rivals got lock horns in the at Arlington Park on 13 August to make the fixture all the more exciting.
On the other hand, 4-year-old Tiger Hill filly, Cheetah, is waiting in the ranks to run in the Grade 1 Beverly D Stakes. Cheetah is 2 of 3 this season, winning an allowance race at Keeneland on 23 April, 2011, over at a distance of 1 1/8 miles.
Her second win came in the Grade 3 Robert Memorial Stakes at Delaware turf over at distance of 1 3/8.
She is looking in top form, and could help trainer Christophe Clement achieve the impossible of 13 August, 2011.
