The former France striker denied any knowledge regarding Laurent Blanc’s future but stressed that his fellow countryman will only continue as France coach on his own terms
France’s ill-fated Euro 2012 campaign led to speculation that Laurent Blanc will step down from the post and the former Bordeaux man has conceded that chances of the 46-year-old walking away are high unless he is given full authority to lead Les Bleus.
Despite guiding Les Bleus to the knockout-stages of the European Championship, Blanc has not been given a new contract. And the Frenchman’s future as France coach is far from certain ahead of a crucial meeting with the France Football Federation.
Laurent Blanc endured a difficult time at the Euros with several controversies surrounding his side. Many criticised the Frenchman for being too polite with his players and for not handing a harsh punishment to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Samir-Nasri-c32360, who was involved in confrontation
with the media on more than one occasion.
While talking to reporters, the former France international, Christophe Dugarry confided that he has no information whether Laurent Blanc will stay on as France coach or will he decide otherwise.
"I have no information with regard to whether Blanc will stay as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 coach,"
However, the Frenchman claimed that the former Manchester United player will only stay on as France coach on his own terms. Blanc would want to be hundred percent sure of federation’s backing before making any decision regarding his future.
"If I know him well enough, I'd say Blanc will only want to stay on his own terms. He will want to know that he has the full support of the federation even in difficult times, with the power to do things as he wishes.”
Christophe Dugarry feels that his fellow countryman has already made up his mind and it is likely that he will step-down from the post.
The former World Cup winner stressed that a lucrative contract would be of no use in an attempt to convince Blanc to stay. Only power to make full decisions and guarantee of full authority regarding team management would make Blanc change his mind.
"If extending [his contract] does not give him such power, it's unlikely he'll stay."
English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspurs are keeping a close eye on Blanc’s contractual situation and see him as a potential successor to Harry Redknapp, if the Cevennes native decides to step down as France manager.
