The AS Saint-Etienne coach feels that Les Verts played well against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 at the weekend but they didn’t have the precision in front of the goal
ASSE failed to finish the year on a positive note after ending up on the losing side against Olympique de Marseille at Stade Velodrome this Sunday. Andre Ayew scored in the dying moments of the first half to send Saint-Etienne empty handed from Stade Velodrome.
Coach, Christophe Galtier has expressed his disappointment at the result and is of the view that his side deserved something from the game. While talking to reporters after the match, the 46-year-old stated that his side failed to convert their chances and
they lacked the cutting edge against a very determined Marseille side.
According to the coach, Sunday's game was evenly balanced and the hosts got in front with an header goal and Saint-Etienne should have done better there.
"My analysis? A header, a goal: we lost. They showed a ruthless streak, and we lacked precision in the final third.”
The Frenchman said that the outcome of the games depend upon how good a team is in the penalty area, and sadly Saint-Etienne were far from best in the final third. It was an impressive performance from Les Verts, but the boss is not pleased with his side’s
lack of goalscoring opportunities.
“The difference in games is always made in the penalty area. I'm satisfied with what we produced; we just didn't have that precision in the last few metres.”
Galtier added that they entered the field with a plan to counter Marseille’s tactic but unfortunately that wasn’t enough to get something out of Sunday’s match.
“We try to have a plan, basing our game on the weaknesses we've seen in our opponent's game.”
The 46-year-old tactician said that Les Verts need to strengthen their squad if they are to compete with the big guns in the league and to achieve club’s objectives this season.
“We've lost against Lyon and Marseille, clearly we come unstuck against the big guns, we have to strengthen the squad. It's easy to say that, but not easy to do it.”
