The French tactician is focused on winning and wants les Verts to continue their string of good performances in the Ligue 1 despite a few minor setbacks.
Christophe Galtier was nothing but ecstatic following the club’s good run of performances. The Frenchman is optimistic about AS Saint-Etienne’s progress this season but believes that the club should not take it for granted, and the players should continue
working hard.
Les Verts are unbeaten since September, the club is one game short of achieving an unbeaten series of 10 games in Ligue 1. Despite their unimpressive start, the club has been progressing well this season.
The club won a decisive encounter against Paris Saint-Germain, which secured them a semi-final spot in the Coupe de la Ligue. Stephane Ruffier took the credit as he denied http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thiago-c34888 Silva’s spot-kick, which eventually lead to their second victory against the
Paris-based club this month alone.
Galtier was delighted upon their progress to the next round. After the game against PSG, the tactician said:
“There are many emotions. At the end we exploded with joy.”
The Coupe de la Ligue performance was indeed worth celebrating, but with the pile of fixtures lined-up for les Verts, the players need to maintain their fitness and be prepared for the clash ahead. However, the schedule does not worry Galtier, who believes
that winning makes recovery easier. The 46-year-old explained:
“When you try to make your own luck, you get some nice surprises. We've got some important games coming up in the league. It's tough physically, but when you win, you recover more quickly.”
The next fixture, against AC Ajaccio, might not be one that should worry ASSE, but with their winless Ligue 1 record away at the Stade Timizzilo since 1970, this match could prove to be a decisive one for the visitors.
However, the Frenchman’s optimism isn’t shaken up despite the unsuccessful history against the Corsican club. Galtier has every bit of confidence in his players that they can come away with a win against their opponents. But he also emphasizes on being realistic
and urged team not to be over-confident. The manager said:
“We want to continue our fine run. We'll play to win as per usual. We'll have to show the same attitude (as against PSG). If we think we're better than everyone just because we've beaten PSG twice in a month, we'll get a slap in the face.”
Saint-Etienne will face Ajaccio at the Stade Francois Costy on 30th November, 2012, with both sides seeking to secure the points for different reasons; one chasing a European spot, while the other needs them for avoiding relegation.
