The Saint-Etienne coach has expressed his satisfaction after his side managed to get away with a point against the reigning champions on Friday
In the first game of the Week six, AS Saint-Etienne caused La Paillade all kinds of trouble taking the deserved lead, and had it not been for the missed chances, Les Verts could have easily won the match.
While talking to reporters after the match, Christophe Galtier praised his players for playing positively at Stade de la Mosson.
The 46-year-old stated that Saint-Etienne have continued their good run of form and they were impressive against Montpellier on Friday. Les Verts created a lot of chances in the match but couldn’t score more goals.
The coach said that his side was wasteful in front of goal, and that cost them in the end, but is pleased with the overall performance.
"It was good to see my side continuing to play the way they did against Sochaux. My team want to play good football and create chances, but you can't score from every chance you get.”
The former Marseille player stated that Saint-Etienne played with great confidence and they were in right state of mind. ASSE wanted to win the game but the coach feels that it wasn’t their day.
Galtier said that there are certain areas that need to be improved, and has urged his players not to lose their focus and avoid silly mistakes.
“I'm satisfied with the way we're playing and with our state of mind, even though everything isn't perfect.”
Talking about the game against the Champions, the Frenchman said that Saint-Etienne were clearly the better team on Friday and they could have score more goals to take the game away from Montpellier.
However, the coach said that the hosts played with great determination and in the end, they got the equaliser.
“We took a deserved lead, and we had the chance to make it 2-0. The match could have turned out very differently. Montpellier are a quality opponent, and they ended up equalising."
AS Saint-Etienne will host newly promoted Stade de Reims at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, in their next game of the 2012/2013 Ligue 1 campaign.
