what did christopher columbus discover??? I know he wanted to discover China, but what did he really find?

He wanted to find India and tried to find a shorter route. This ended with him actually finding the Canary Islands near America. Amerigo Vespucci was the person to discover North and South America.

he wanted to discover INDIA but instead he found america..that's why the inhabitants (native americans) are called indians..becuase he thought he was in india and called them indians.

Christoper Columbus didnt really want to discover anything, he wanted to get rich and find an alternate route to India (but also China) b/c that is where the spice were back then, he ended up in the Bahamas and then went to North America... i mean he still found spices, but not exactly where he wanted them.... the reason why Native Americans are called Indians (the doofus though he was in India)... and the reason why the Caribbean is also called the West Indies (again, this whole confusion with him and where continents are), but i mean i guess he discovered America (even though i find it hard to discover a a place when people are already living there)

He missed his mark all the way around. He ended up in the Carribeans and brought much destruction and disease there. He never set foot on North America per se. To this day I do not understand why we in the US have Columbus day. He was given finances through Queen Isabella from Spain. He was Italian. Goes to show you never trust a guy that can't take  directions hey?

I say he didn't discover anything. The man in the crows nest who yelled "land ho' was the first to see america and such. Columbus took the credit while that poor man suffered up there through storms and rough seas. just my thought!
