Christopher Flores beats Randolph Balatbat in third round of MVP Sports Foundation Bingo Bonanza
Philippines’ Christopher Flores secured a quarter-final spot as he defeated Randolph Balatbat in the Men’s Singles third round of the 2011 MVP Sports Foundation Bingo Bonanza, in Philippines, on Sunday, July 31.
Christopher has been playing wonderful badminton in this tournament, which is the third leg of national circuit in Philippines. Randolph put up a strong resistance, but his effort was not enough to beat his opponent in this pre-quarter-final battle. Christopher
clinched the fight in three games by taking 55 minutes of court time.
The opening set of this round-of-16 fight was absolutely thrilling, as both shuttlers progressed closely until the end of the first-half, where Christopher was leading the game with a small gap of 11-9. The speed of the game was quite high and both players
were trying to dominate the pace at the net.
After the break, again both players remained close by playing positive and fast badminton. However, in the concluding points of the opening game, Christopher managed to play some fascinating shots and earned precious points to win the opening game with the
margin of 21-19, in 19 minutes.
The second set of the match was a different story as Randolph delivered a better performance this time. He quickly learnt from the mistakes he made in the first game. He remained in good control of the game by playing at his best.
Christopher tried to dominate the game but failed against a spirited Randolph, who was playing with variations and precision in his strikes. Christopher failed to tackle the aggressive play of his challenger in this game and lost it with the difference of
16-21, in 17 minutes.
The deciding set of this entertaining Men’s Singles fight was superb for the audience, as both shuttlers put everything in the fight to occupy the driving set. However, no one could manage the lead until the ending points of the match, where Christopher
remained lucky in scoring points and won the set with a 21-18 margin, in 19 minutes. The final score of this entertaining match was 21-19, 16-21 and 21-18.
