Christopher Froome of Team Sky Procycling bagged the first mountain stage of the Tour de France.
The cyclist rode brilliantly during the 199 kilometre race and restricted Cadel Evans and Bradley Wiggins for the second and the third positions respectively.
Team Sky cyclist crossed the finish-line in the quickest time of 4 hours, 58 minutes and 35 seconds and occupied the top podium position.
Cadel Evans of Team BMC and Bradley Wiggins of Team Sky finished two seconds behind and secured the second and the third positions.
“It wasn't the plan to go for the stage, it was just keeping Brad up there,” said an overjoyed Froome after finishing the race.
“But we came to see the climb previously and I knew what the finish was like. I thought, 'I'm there, I've got the legs, why not give a kick and see what happens?' I gave it a nudge and couldn't believe when Cadel didn't follow my wheel".
“I'm speechless. That was a dream comes true. I never thought of winning a stage here. I'm chuffed to bits”.
“Having Bradley right there 2 seconds behind, We couldn't ask for more. It puts the team in a fantastic position going forward,” he concluded.
Christopher has now secured the polka-dot jersey after winning the first mountainous stage of the race
Chris Anker Sorensen of Team Saxo Bank won the first and the second mountain category of the race and earned 4 important points.
Christopher Froome bagged 20 UCI points after winning the third climb of the race with Cadel Evans, Bradley Wiggins and Vincenzo Nibali achieved the next three spots during the 199 kilometre ascend of the race.
Bradley Wiggins has jumped up to the first overall position after his splendid performance during the seventh stage.
Cadel Evans of Team BMC is ten seconds behind at the second position with Vincenzo Nibali of Team Liquigas-Cannondale and Rein Taaramae of Team Cofidis holds the third and the fourth positions respectively.
Fabian Cancellara has now dropped down from 11th overall position after 20th place finish during the race.
Team Sky Procycling is leading the team’s classifications with Team RadioShack-Nissan, Team Katusha, Team Liquigas-Cannondale and Team BMC holding the next four spots.
