Christopher Froome yet to decide his future team – Cycling News
Team Sky cyclist Christopher Froome is currently at the second position after the stage 19 general classifications at the Vuelta a Espana and has not decided his future team as of now. He is the centre of attention and is receiving offers from many teams.
Chris is only 13 seconds behind the race leader Juan Jose Cobo of Geox-TMC and with two more stages to come he is very much capable to cut down the lead and occupy the highest podium position in Madrid. Froome joined team Sky in 2010 and has been in top
form since then especially at the ongoing Vuelta as he finished 5th in stage 9 and second in the time trial stage 10 winning himself the red jersey. He managed 4th in stage 15 and won stage 17 during the 2011 Vuelta a Espana.
Team Sky’s manager David Brailsford mentioned that the cyclist is already under the immense pressure and asking to sign the contract at this point will not be a good idea as it might disperse his concentration. David said, “You wouldn’t go to the Olympic
Games and start talking to Sir Chris Hoy about his contract night before he races. I flatly refuse to do it.”
David also briefed that the cyclist has been informed that team Sky is happy to hold him for the coming season and that he should concentrate on the race as it is a career turning point for him. He stated that once the tour is over Froome will be contacted
and team Sky will place their offer as he said, “When the time’s right, when the race is done, we'll sit down and talk about the next thing, when he's in a better frame of mind to do it. I think that's the way to do it."
Brailsford mentioned that it will not be easy for Christopher to beat the 13 seconds lead over the race leader Juan Jose Cobo Acebo as he mentioned that although it’s a small lead but with only two stages left in the tour it will not be an easy task.
It will be interesting to see how team Sky plans the coming two stages of the Vuelta a Espana as Bradley Wiggins can also be seen attacking towards the end as he is currently at third position with 1 minute and 41 seconds behind the Geox-TMC rider.
