Christopher Martin leads the top performers on day-2 of 2011 FIBA Asia Championship Cup - Part -1
Christopher Martin Ayer
Although Malaysia’s champions WKL Dragons lost to the hosts Smart Gilas Pilipinas by a colossal margin of 95-64, their influential player Christopher Martin Ayer had a magnificent game. The 6ft 10in centre, who is in his fourth
and final season of collegiate basketball at Loyola Marymount, racked up a game-high 31 points and clutched 13 boards.
Martin was absolutely flawless from the charity stripe and went 6-of-6. He connected 41 percent of the shots from the field and also buried a scorching blow from beyond the arc. KL Dragon’s ace player supported the team massively
on both the offensive and defensive sides of the court and scored almost half of the teams total points.
Martin continued the action till the last minute and smashed Smart Gilas with 12 points in the fourth quarter. However, the massive lead that was constructed by the Gilas in the first three periods was a bit too much.
Marcus A. Morrison
The only player other than Martin to land in double scoring figures for the WKL Dragons was their second import, Marcus A. Morrison. Morrison started for the Dragons and managed to finish the night with 15 points on a 4-of-10 shooting
in nearly 36 minutes of play. Martin was the only other Dragon along with Christopher to score in the fourth quarter as rest of the team completely failed to provide a scoring outlet.
Christopher John Tiu
On Sunday night, Smart Gilas again showcased their title credentials Led by their star player Christopher John Tiu, five other players scored in the double figures as the hosts took down the Malaysian team by 31 points on the day
2 of the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship Cup. John racked up a team-high 11 points and dished out 5 assists to put his team on the frontline.
John managed to connect 57 percent from the field and also landed a three. In nearlt 21 minutes of play, John also nailed two free throws.
Joseph Evans Casio
Joseph Evans Casio also inspired the Gilas with 10 points, 7 assists and 3 rebounds in 26 minutes of play. Joseph never made it to the free throw line in the entire game; however he buried two blistering 3-pointers for his team
and connected 36 percent (4of-11) from the field.
Other performances
Christopher Ryan Lutz, Marnel Baracael, Donaldo Hontiveros also scored 10 points apiece for the home team while Marcus Douthit narrowly missed a double-double with 9 points and 14 rebounds.
