Former Blackburn Rovers defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christopher-Samba-c9212 has revealed he did not join Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala for the money as claimed by the media.
After speculation lasting months, Samba joined the Russian side for a fee of 12 million pounds from the English Premier League side. The big spending Anzhi Makhachkala, who are now managed by Guus Hiddink, have welcomed yet another top Premier League player.
The Rovers manager Steve Kean had some not so nice things to say about Samba, claiming the player did not have the decency to apologize for his behaviour. He also revealed the dressing room was better after the departure of Samba, which he hinted was because
of money.
The central defender denied his move was motivated by money and claimed it was instead because he believed the Russian side were ambitious. Samba said they had the money and the ambition that had attracted him to them in the second half of the English Premier
League season.
Samba said while speaking to reporters:
“They may be a little club, but they have ambition. This is a team with a realistic chance to play at the highest level of European football. They have the ambition and the money.
They bought me for £12million - plus http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yuri-Zhirkov-c37683 and Samuel Eto'o. There will be more big names coming, I know of two which will surprise people that we will sign in the summer. We'd like to do what Man City have done.”
Samba was involved in a long-term feud with Blackburn Rovers after the club refused to let him leave in the January transfer window. He even went as far as to hand in a transfer request and claim that he would not play for Blackburn Rovers if he was forced
to stay.
As for his decision to act as he did, Samba revealed he had no regrets for how things had ended up. As for any grudges, Samba claimed he had none and said he wished for the Blackburn Rovers to avoid relegation come end of the season.
He revealed:
“I don't want to have any regrets. I'm 27 and must look to make the most of my years.
Of course, I hope http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 will remain in the Premier League.”
