Christopher Wright claims Men’s 50m butterfly gold – EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships
Christopher Wright of Southport Olympic Swimming Club earned gold medal of the Men’s 100m breaststroke on second day of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships at the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide on Friday, March 16.
The 23-year-old Wright showed no leniency to his challengers and transpired on the finishing end with the timing of 23.79 seconds for gold medal. His nerve-wrecking form placed him in a lead of 0.02 seconds over Daniel Lester of Lawnton, who stepped on the
victory stand for second position by clocking a time of 23.81 seconds.
The third spot of the race was claimed by Ryan Pini of PNG, who stayed 0.06 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and posted a time of 23.87 seconds.
Moments later, Hayden Stoeckel of Berri achieved top position in the Men’s 100m backstroke. The 27-year-old Stoeckel smothered all struggles of his challengers and earned his way into the final round as top contender for gold medal by hitting the wall with
the timing of 53.73 seconds.
His scintillating form remained 0.34 seconds ahead of Ashley Delaney of Nunawading, who ended his race in second best place by clocking an effort of 54.07 seconds. The 25-year-old Benjamin Treffers stayed 0.29 seconds slower from his foregoing competitor
and snared third fastest spot of the event by producing a time of 54.36 seconds.
Following that, Belinda Hocking of Albury secured top position in the Women’s 100m backstroke semi-final by posting 59.39 seconds. The 21-year-old Hocking enjoyed an advantage of almost one second over Emily Seebohm of Nudgee Brothers, who finished her race
with the timing of 1 minute and 00.06 seconds for second position.
She was trailed by Sophie Edington, who remained 0.58 seconds slower form her former finisher and made her way into the playoff as third finest swimmer by hitting the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 00.64 seconds.
The session ended after the conclusion of all scheduled events in Men and Women’s category whereas the winners received accolades for their notable efforts in their respective discipline after the session. In addition, the champion will end on March 22 after
the finalisation of all events.
