Christy Martin-Mia St John WBC female light middleweight title bout in August – Boxing News
Christy Martin, the former WBC female light middleweight champion, will now collide with Mia St John, the former WBC International female lightweight champion, in a 10-round for the ownership of the vacant WBC female light middleweight title on August 14,
2012.
The announcement, made by Roy Englebrecht, promoter of the event, revealed that due to the unhealthy physical and mental condition of Christy, the bout which was originally meant to take place on June 19th, 2012 will now take place on the above mentioned
date.
The ring for the bout will be stretched at Table Mountain Casino situated in Friant, California, United States and the above bout will headline the Thursday night showdown. It must be kept in mind that the postponement was made on the request lodged by the
former champion Christy since she recently underwent severe stress regarding the issue of her ex-husband.
Martin, 43, has been in a total 58 bouts and boasts 49 wins with 31 of them via knockout. According to the details put forth the media, Christy recently attended the last hearing of the case in which her husband was convicted for assaulting and injuring
her twice with the knife and once by a bullet shot.
With the end of this tormenting scenario, Christy will now have ample time to not only recover from the mental fatigue but also from the physical damage to her body. Christy recently shared her thoughts about the postponement of the bout and expressed her
extreme desire of grabbing the career’s 50th win.
Christy will enter the ring against Mia, who has been in a total 59 bouts and boasts 46 wins with 18 via knockout. Both women are considered as the best in the division and proudly hold top ranks in world rankings therefore a stiff and toe-to-toe competition
is definitely expected.
Martin, widely known as the ‘Coalminer's Daughter’, while sharing her thoughts commented, “I love this sport and am equally excited to return to the ring for my 50th victory, but I am mentally and physically exhausted and need to heal. Due to my love for
this sport, I want to give all my fans, Roy Englebrecht, and Table Mountain Casino, the show they deserve.”
At the same time Mia, who is famous by her alias ‘The Knockout’, shared her sheer displeasure at the news and remarked, “I am terribly disappointed, but my focus is to beat her on August 14th. I‘ve waited nine years for this fight, so I can wait two months
more.”
The rest of the pay-per-view will be completed with the passage of time and more bouts will be added in the upcoming days.
