Question:

Chrome and stainless parts-what is the best thing to use to remove imbedded stains from chrome or s/s parts?

have some old chrome and SS parts for a boat engine that have stains , maybe from salt water, that I am having a hard time getting off. Any suggestions would be appreciated and tried. Thanx

  1. Solid chrome and stainless steel won't stain unless they are exposed to a fairly strong acid or extreme heat.  It is my guess that they where plated and the under lying metal is corroding and bubbling through.  You will have to replace them!


  2. I also had a similar problem & used a solution of Muriatic Acid. It is available at most hardware stores. It will also do a fantastic job on rusted bolts, copper & brass.

    Try a test section first on a portion that won't be visable.

    It is great for removing the white scale around faucets & & bathroom fixtures. I use it on chrome & stainless steel all the time & have yet to run into a problem.
