Question:

Chronic High RBC...?

Is this normal? I have had this for a few years. Should I get further testing to find out what is causing it? My kidney GFR was 90 however in the past has been 80. Maybe that is a normal reading or could it be correlated with high RBC?

I am 30 and healthy and don't drink alcohol. When I had my blood drawn I was fasting and drank water beforehand if that matters.

Thank you!

  1. Depends how high the RBC counts are. E.g., polycythemia vera, eventually requires treatment to reduce the number of red cells. Your question seems to suggest you merely suspect you might have high RBC, though, and didn't actually have an abnormal count.

  2. Smokers and people who live at high altitudes have that condition.  Anyone who is around low oxygen levels.  But, it could also be caused by serious issues.  See a hematologist and have it checked out.
