Question:

Chronic Poor immune function: What can I do?

I have a long history of minor but chronic health problems. As a child I suffered from Staph Infection that caused recurrent boils and also recurrent verrucas that would sometimes be so bad I could not walk. As an adult I have suffered from Chronic Migraine, Acne (which I have been fighting for over 15 years now) and Colitis. I have been told that my thyroid is under-active through not yet bad enough to medicate and I have a long term issue with anemia. I seem to get every bug going and often feel so tired I sleep 12 + hours a day and to top is all off I have been told today I have oral thrush.

I feel there is something badly wrong with my immune system but I don't know how to sort it out. I have had a multitude of tests and have been to conventional doctors, herbalists, homeopaths, naturopaths, chinese herbalists and even spiritual healers. The all promise a lot but things never seem to improve.

Does anyone have any advice that might help me?

  1. I understand where you're coming from. I have hypothyroidism, and an underactive thyroid, no matter *how* underactive still needs treatment. If you can find a doctor willing to treat you for hypothyroidism, it would help a lot.

Any autoimmune disorder can cause the problems you are having. When you have so many things waging war on your body, it's really impossible to function.

Have you tried The Yeast Connection diet?  I was having horrible problems with yeast (not thrush, but female trouble) when I went on the diet and I could not believe the difference it made.  I could think clearly, I had energy to do things, and I stopped getting sick. The diet not only cleanses your body of yeast, it also provides you with instructions for a rotation diet.  When you follow a rotation diet, you eat specific foods on each day and often you will discover hidden food allergies or intolerances as a result.  It helped me identify many foods that caused most of my problems.  (For example, turkey makes me irritable.)

You've run the gamut of doctors.  I know how that is. You're tired of searching. Hopefully you can take a look at the Yeast Connection diet and make it work for you.  If you're still at your wit's end after trying the diet, I'd suggest reading Your Symptoms are Real:  What to do when your doctor says nothing is wrong.  The doctor who wrote it specializes in auto-immune disorders, and he explains what the disorders do and offers ideas for things you or your doctor can try.
