Chronicles of Spanish football: a farce of disciplinary actions (Part 2)
In the aftermath of the immaturity in display during the Spanish Super Cup, a lot was expected of the governing body. However, the decisions that were made shocked everyone involved in the game.
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho was suspended for two matches while his aggressor, Tito Vilanova, will serve a one match for his involvement. To top it off, they have been fined 600 Euros as a financial punishment. To complete the farce of a punishment,
these match bans are only applicable in the Spanish Super Cup.
Making the whole ruling even more comical were the rulings against the two clubs. For their connection in the whole chain of events, Real Madrid were fined an overwhelming 180 Euros - Yes! That is 180 Euros. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Barcelona-c39078, on the other hand, got away cheaply
by half of that amount: the Catalan club were fined 90 Euros – so much for taking a tough stance on discipline!
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Villa-c10629 went unpunished for his slap on Mesut Ozil while the monkey chants audible at Santiago Bernabeu and Camp Nou were simply dismissed. Racism for Spanish officials is a non-issue while slapping each other is just a show of affection in their eyes.
After a fifty-day wait and on the back of growing crowd troubles, this is a slap on the face of those who were looking to see justice being delivered. This was a chance for the authorities to show their force and make sure such events are not repeated in
the future.
LFP had the chance to show that incidents of such damaging nature will not be tolerated. With ramifications of racism, violence and pure unprofessionalism in Spanish football being as they are, they made a mess out of things in this episode of law and order.
When looking at the said decisions, one has to think hard about which one is the worst: the financial punishments, or the bans?
The ban on the coaches is a bigger farce than the supposed financial penalties. The authorities have banned the said personnel in a competition they are most likely to take part in but this lacks the element of certainty. You have to stop and think whether
Real Madrid or http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 will be in the cup finals next year.
Yes, they are most expected to be locking horns in the Spanish Cup; however, there are no assurances whether they will be there in the next installment. This season the competition is high and teams like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 and Malaga are also expected to give the
big guns a run for their money.
We can make little note of the financial ramifications in this regard, as there is an air of surety that the passed ruling will come in effect.
However, the paltry fines are a disgrace on their own terms. The two clubs make millions and Mourinho, in fact, has a contract worth 13 million Euros – the fine is worth 600 Euros, do the math!
More shameful are the fines handed out to the clubs. In a league where everyone is crying about the exorbitant amounts of money made by the two clubs involved, 180 and 90 Euros is diabolically appalling.
LFP has chosen to ignore the fact that proper discipline is a must in every organization. However, expecting a lot from the supervisors of the Spanish league is a foolish thing to do in the first place. The phrase “La Liga is played by geniuses and run by
idiots” wasn’t any more relevant.
