Chuck Mussachio grabs impressive unanimous decision win over Billy Bailey – Boxing News
Chuck Mussachio, the former World Boxing Foundation United States light heavyweight champion, nailed his fellow countryman and grabbed a unanimous decision over Billy Bailey, the former number one contender of WBO NABO Youth light heavyweight title, in an
eight-round bout held on May 19, 2012.
The duo co-headlined the pay-per-view organised and promoted by J Russell Peltz of Peltz Boxing Promotions Incorporation and the ring for the showdown was set up at Bally’s Atlantic City situated in Atlantic City, New Jersey, United States.
The event was headlined by the much anticipated non-title eight-round bout between Jamaal Davis and Eberto Medina. Chuck, 32, was entering in his career’s 22nd bout and was slightly overshadowed by his opponent’s experience.
Also known as ‘The Professor’, Chuck boasted 17 wins with just five via knockout. The Philadelphia proud has collected just two wins and two draw decisions in his career and was coming from a 12th round knockout loss to Garrett Wilson, a bout with USBA cruiserweight
title on the line.
His Saturday night opponent, Billy, on the other hand, was entering in his 26th career bout and unfortunately exhibited a heavily tarnished resume. Billy, 33, has nailed just 11 men and to make things worse, the Californian has nailed just four opponents
by knockout.
With a huge 14 losses and entering the ring with a three-bout lose streak, there was not much to be expected from Billy who resides far in the World Boxing Organisation’s rankings.
The bout kicked off and from the very first round, Chuck set the pace and dominated the whole showdown convincingly. Mussachio battered Billy heavily and did not allow any kind of leverage.
During the second round, Chuck even made Billy face an eight-count standing count out and in the fourth round gifted the brick-headed Bailey with a cut above the left eye. The eight-round showdown bout ended and the judges even the crowd were unanimous at
Chuck winning the bout.
The designated referees allocated 79-72, 78-73, and 78-73 in favour of Chuck who has literally skimmed the frustration of the last bout inch-loss off his chest. After the bout the excited Chuck remarked, “It felt good to get back in the win column tonight.
It wasn't easy (against Bailey) by any means, but I felt like I did what I had to do.”
While thanking his fans in the arena, Chuck stated, “I’d really like to thank the fans for doing that for Adam and for cheering for me during the fight. Whenever I start to feel tired during a fight, I hear those cheers and that keeps me going.”
The victory has further strengthened his resume to 18 wins and Billy, on the contrary, has grabbed yet another loss in his career and now exhibits 15 career losses.
