Chuck Mussachio returns to the ring to take on Billy Bailey in a non-title bout – Boxing News
Chuck Mussachio, the current World Boxing Foundation United States light heavyweight champion, is all set to make a comeback after six months. For now, he is scheduled to take on fellow countryman Billy Bailey in an eight-round non-title bout which will
be held on May 19, 2012.
The ring for the bout will be stretched at Bally’s Atlantic City arena situated in Atlantic City, New Jersey, United States and the Saturday night show will be headlined by the non-title 10-round bout between Harry Joe Yorgey and Jamaal Davis.
Chuck and Billy will co-headline the special edition which is being promoted and organised by J Russell Peltz of Peltz Boxing Promotions, Incorporation. Chuck is returning to the ring after the gap of six long months and has decided to remain at the light
heavyweight division instead of the cruiserweight.
Widely known as ‘The Professor’, Mussachio has been in a total 21 bouts and emerged victorious in 17. He has nailed just five of his opponents by knockout and is well known for being a fast but low powered jab thrower.
The 32-year-old left the ring after his last loss to Garrett Wilson. Wilson was defending his USBA cruiserweight title for the very first time against Chuck and in that 12-round showdown Mussachio was unanimously leading on all the three cards but his attack
and eventually the dream to become the USBA champion was crushed as Garrett knocked him out in the 41st second of the 12th round.
After that inch-loss, Chuck went out to take some rest and regain the strength while revamping his bout strategies by undergoing trainings and sparring sessions with various coaches.
This will be Chuck’s 22nd bout and most probably he will rise at the occasion and grab an emphatic win since his Saturday night opponent Billy does not possess an intimidating in fact a decent resume.
Billy, 33, has been in a total 25 bouts and was able to nail just 11 opponents. He has collected 14 losses and nailed just four opponents by knockout. With such a resume and just one win in last 10 bouts, Bailey does not stand a chance in front of the former
champion Chuck.
The odds are definitely in favour of Chuck since he has prepared well for the bout and has undergone strenuous training. During a recent press conference, Chuck shared his thoughts about his last bout with Wilson and said, “I still think about that 12th
round. I only weighed 183 against Wilson. I’m a natural 175.”
The bout might not be an impressive one since Billy is collecting losses from pugilists who are rookies and therefore there is only a slight chance that he put forth’s Chuck a heavy duty tough competition.
