Church wear...? Help!?

I'm going to the church tomorrow for a little boy's baptism. I am not a religious person and scarcely ever go to church. I know the boy's family pretty well. I was planning on wearing jeans, a tank top and a cardigan over it, but I just read it's not a very appropriate outfit.

I was just wondering, what do you think? Is it okay, or not ? What would you wear ?

The baptism is going to be in an Orthodox church.

In my church it would be o.k., but if you feel uncomfortable

you could wear a dress.

If you are going to an Orthodox church, you need to wear a long skirt if you have one.  If not, long dress slacks will be fine.  The idea is keep your body as covered as possible.  Also wear a scarf to cover your head.  They may have scarves there for guests or they may not, but you really need your head covered.  Do not receive communion, but afterward the unblessed bread will likely be offered to you and it is ok to eat that.  You may not understand a lot of what's going on, but just hang in there and think of it as a learning experience.  Good luck!

I wear a dress or skirt most all the times to Church and it is

more appropriate for any woman that is going to Church but some Churches you could just wear jeans and a top.

A baptism is a semi-formal occasion: you should wear a dress. Jeans and a tank-top ... are you kidding?

You need yo get a dress on, Or nice slacks and a dress top. Sounds like you have never been a church

At my church a dress or a nice pair of slacks would be appropriate.  However, I've worn jeans to a baptism.  Every church is different.    Call the family and ask them what is appropriate to wear at their church.  If you aren't able to get in touch with them then wear a nice skirt (or slacks).

If it were just any other mass on a random sunday the jeans would be fine but since it's a baptism you don't want to be too casual. The top sounds fine, just wear some black slacks or even khaki pants. Maybe a skirt if you like those. Just, not jeans.

in my opinion trousers are ok but cover your arms and not too low at front so a blouse would be appropriated nice shoes
