Churches are now advising that parishioners protect the environment. What triggered this change?

Generally, church leadership has previously dismissed climate change comments as "rhetoric from the left". Recent news radio and newspaper articles mention that the environment has become an important issue to them.

I'm glad to see the change in perception - was it the Hurricane Katrina aftermath that caused this?

  1. Could have a lot to do with the Vatican adding environmental pollution as a sin...just my guess. But really, the environment as an issue has been on the back burner for far too long and I think a lot people, in or out of the church, are finally coming around to realizing that.


  2. Could it be, possibly the Govt. threatened to take away their tax free status if they did not start to preach this!!

  4. The reemergence of rational thought in the right wing christian element of our society.  Finally, they are begining to back away from the dream of G_d lifting them bodily out of their shoes and sailing off into the clouds, and that is giving them a new appreciation of Terra Firma.
