Churchfield Champ yearns for second straight success
The lengthy training session between December 2011 and April 2012 proved to be such a helpful for Churchfield Champ as he impressed all with his few excellent runs during the subsequent months. Currently, he is going through the best phase of his career. The momentum, he possesses, suggests that he will be able to bring home the ace title of Galway City Publicans Handicap Hurdle, scheduled to take place at Galway on September 12.
The Paul John Gilligan trained bay gelding is going to show his credentials against nine worthy competitors over 2 miles. The surface is soft enough, but this is not a big issue for the veteran horse who has experienced every sort of conditions in his 11-race career.
Churchfield Champ debuted in April 2011 and broke his maiden in May 2012 by winning the 15-runner race of Follow Sligo Races Facebook Handicap Hurdle.  That was indeed a magnificent achievement.
The son of Norwich out of Ash Dame finished as the runner-up in the Sean Graham Bookmakers Handicap Hurdle---the 16-runner contest was also held at Sligo.
After a below-par performance, he again earned the runner-up spot in HP Bulmer Memorial "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle.
The Sean Conroy owned gelding’s second victory came on August 31 when he gracefully clinched top position in the Racing Welfare Novices' Hurdle that was his last start.
Since the start of this month, Churchfield Champ has been going through taxing drills that have prepared him well to register first ever success at Galway. Hopefully, the young and energetic gelding will leave no stone unturned to live up to the expectations of the punters who have stakes their money on him.
This victory will be a value addition to the Irish horse’s career along with being a big morale-booster for his future ventures.
Despite the fact that Churchfield Champ has all the chances to thrive, some people have concerns over the new jockey, Barry Geraghty, who, unlike A. P. McCoy, may not be able to exploit the runner’s stamina fully.
Anyhow, we must hope for the best and wish good luck to the gelding. Let us enjoy the live action.
