Chuter: No room for complacency
Leicester's George Chuter says there is no room for complacency as the club gets ready to face Exeter this weekend.
Chuter said: "Everyone always says there are no easy games and I think Exeter's win proved it. It's a fantastic win for Exeter and for the league in general to see a club come up from the Championship and win a game against one of the big guys."
Leicester lost their first game of the season 27-19 at the hands of much fancied Northampton. Many are predicting a comfortable win for Leicester in their next game and a chance to get the season going for the Premiership champions.
However, Chuter points out that confidence in the Exeter camp will be high after the side defied the odds to win their first ever Premiership game against Gloucester.
There are many dangers if even one player in a side becomes a little complacent before a game. If Leicester does not win against Exeter then the pressure is going to be piled on top of the side before the season has really started.
Dangers of complacency
Complacency can force experienced and quality players in to making mistakes that they would normally avoid. This is because a player will fall into a sense of security because he under estimates the strength of the opposition.
Complacency can force big mistakes to appear within Leicester's team. It just takes one player to switch off for a few seconds and a gap will appear. Exeter has very fast players that can exploit these gaps and score points that will give the Chiefs a chance of winning the match.
There is also a very big danger for complacent individuals in the Leicester team. Richard Cockerill will be looking for a response from Leicester's players and if he sees one person looking a bit lazy then they will be out of the team very quickly.
Any means necessary
At this stage of the season any points on the board will do. Leicester will be looking for a positive reaction but the club will take any win they can because of the fact that the side lost in the first game. This means the club is not likely to produce the best exhibition of rugby that you have ever seen against Exeter.
If Leicester does not win this game then the pressure will be increased and this can force further mistakes to appear. However, it's important to point out that Bath had a terrible start to the season last year and ended up in fourth place.
Chuter added: "It's that sort of league this year, the new laws do open the game up a bit more. If you can keep the ball and keep going through the phases then teams will struggle and it sounds like that's what Exeter did. You don't need to play fancy rugby to be efficient and get results."
Betting advice
Leicester are the heavy favourites for this game and you should not think twice about backing them. The club has too much experience to let a naive thing like complacency be the decisive factor when Leicester is chasing a first win of the season.
If you like to back key players in a team then wait to see who Toby Flood will be replaced by for Leicester. Whoever takes his role is likely to be kicking penalties and conversions and this person will always be a solid bet for top points scorer in the match.
If Leicester gets ahead early then don't hesitate to back them to win by a very long margin.
