Okay well about 4 months ago my fish had babies and just a few days ago I noticed that the baby fish were nibbling the dads top fin. When I checked him out his fin is barely even there now. a little same for the mother. Is this normal for the baby fish to do that?? I have both the parents in the breeding net. but I dont want them to have to stay there if so. Please help.

  1. You should consider moving the babies to a separate growing tank. This behavior is somewhat normal, as convict do sometimes feed their babies by glancing - a process wherin the parents will secrete a slime like substance on their skin which the babies will feed (nibble) on, which may explain why the babies would be nibbling on the fins of the parents. By removing the babies the parents would have a chance to recover and regrow their fins.

  2. No this is not normal for that to occur.  I'm rather surprised though they adults are tolerating this.  Why this would happen, I'm not very sure, but I think your best course of action at this point would be get a seperate tank for each group.

  3. feed alittle more

  4. which cichlid are they?

  5. It's hard to say without knowing specifically what kind of cichlids they are.  This may be normal behaviour.
