Cierra Burdick, Melisa Gretter - Top players from Day-6 of FIBA U-19 World Championship for Women
PART - 1
On the 6th day of the FIBA U-19 World Championship for Women being held in Chile, a total of 7 games were played. The United States, Argentina and Chinese Taipei displayed the most solid performances and won their games convincingly.
Russia, Canada and France battled hard in their respective games and eventually ran out comfortable winners. Due to Nigeria’s absence from the tournament, Egypt earned a walkover. However, the most exciting match developed between Australia and Spain, where the Aussies managed to keep their calm and ultimately edged past Spain in the last moments of the game.
Italy vs USA
Cierra Burdick
In their huge victory over the Italians, the USA power forward amassed a total of 17 pts and 9 rebounds in only 19 minutes of play. She also managed to make 7/8 of her free throws at 87.5%.
Breanna Stewart
The other USA power forward was at work as well as she tucked in 15 points and plucked 4 rebounds in just over 13 minutes of play. She was at her shooting best with statistics of 7/9 from the 2-point range.
Stefanie Dolson
Stefanie Dolson, who plays as a centre racked up 14 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to mark her contribution.
Irene Cigliani
The Italian side showed very little resistance and only their small forward, Irene, showed a some sort of a fight. She accumulated 11 points and 4 rebounds; and was Italy’s best player.
Argentina vs Slovenia
Melisa Gretter
Argentina dominated their match against Slovenia as point guard Melisa led the charge. She racked up 25 points, clutched 7 defensive rebounds and made 5 assists.
Rocio Diaz
Rocio was the second Argentine player to score more than 20 points against Slovenia. The shooting guard canned 22 points and caught 2 rebounds to lead her team to victory.
Natasha Spiatta
Another Argentine player, Natasha, made significant contribution to her team by scoring 15 points and grabbing 4 rebounds. She was on target 85.7% of the time as she netted 6/7 field goals.
Nika Baric
The only shining performer in the Slovenian side was their point guard, Nika Baric, who scored 27 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and made 4 assists.
China vs Russia
Ksenia Tikhonenko
The Russian centre was on fire against China as not only did she score 20 points, she did so at an exceptional rate of 88.9 %, which included 8 out 9 successful field goals.
Ekaterina Fedorenkova
Ekaterina played only 20 minutes, during which she gathered a total of 17 points and 2 rebounds. Her shooting was spot on as she scored 6/7 field goals at 85.7 %.
Dong Yu
China had an off day and only their centre Dong Yu was able to make some inroads into Russian Territory. She accumulated 13 points and 4 rebounds.
