Cierra Runge seizes Women’s 100m freestyle gold – Speedo Junior National Championships
Cierra Runge of North Baltimore seized gold medal of the Women’s 100m freestyle on day two of the 2012 Speedo Junior National Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Tuesday, August 14.
The 16-year-old Runge shattered hopes of her opponents by capturing gold medal of the event in a phenomenal manner. She faced no trouble from any of her challenger throughout the discipline and reached the wall for first position.
With her fantastic pace and utter determination, Runge enjoyed a half body length lead over her closest rival as she cruised her way towards the wall for the crown of the race by producing a time of 55.64 seconds.
The champion was chased by Gillian Ryan of North Baltimore, who remained just 0.51 seconds apart and secured second position of the race by clocking a time of 56.15 seconds.
Ryan was trailed by Victoria Toris of Scottsdale Aquatic Club, who stayed only 0.13 seconds slower and ended third in the event by producing a time of 56.28 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Faith Johnson of Star Aquatics-NC, who was only 0.13 seconds away from her preceding swimmer and settled on finishing wall as fourth fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 56.41 seconds.
Johnson was chased by Kathryn McLaughlin of Mission Viejo Nadadores, who was 0.39 seconds slower from upsetting her former finisher and clocked a time of 56.80 seconds for fifth position.
McLaughlin was followed by Alexandra Meyers of Schroeder YMCA Sharks, who suffered a loss of only 0.10 seconds from her and finished sixth in the event with a timing of 56.90 seconds.
Meyers was followed by Lindsey Engel of Orange County Waves, who stayed just two arm strokes behind and secured seventh position of the event by clocking a time of 57.14 seconds.
Eighth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Emily Allen of North Mecklenburg Aquatics, who stayed 0.03 seconds slower and posted a time of 57.17 seconds.
Runge was very contented with her gold finish in National Junior Championships and stated that she would try to achieve that at senior level.
