They say I can appeal. I didn't even know about this right away. Also, I ordered for many people who will never pay me this money. Has anyone successfully appealed? If so, can u help me. thank you.

  1. You bought them; you owe the state tax that you were trying to avoid by ordering from out of state.  What you did with them after they arrived is of no interest to PA because they have you.

Cigarette smoking is hazardous to your health, physical and financial.

    Have a nice day.

  2. yes i know they cost like 4.00 and 39 cents each now man that is really bad good for me thought that i dont smoke

  3. That's probably what they decided you should get for importing cigarettes to avoid paying your state's taxes.  Tsk, tsk.

  4. About your only valid appeal would be to somehow show that you didn't buy as many as they said you did, and they do have the records from the place you bought them from so that's not a very good chance.

You broke the law by evading the tax, now you're caught and have to pay what you should have paid in the first place.  The fact that they weren't all for you, you were ordering for others too, doesn't help you.

PA has had articles in the media about this for probably a year now, so if you continued to buy them and not pay the tax, then you have only yourself to blame.

  5. Sorry, I don't have a good answer for you. I just wanted to let you know that not everybody here hates smokers. I've heard that they're going to find a way to tax us no matter where we buy cigarettes- even the reservations. I guess we're all screwed...The only thing I can think to tell you  is to start rolling your own. I smoke Bugler and it cost me about $15.00 a can, which lasts longer than a carton of cigarettes. (And the price did not go up with the new tax!) It won't help you with your $4,000 problem, but it's something to consider in the future. Sorry about your bad luck.  :(
