  1. I am a smoker, and I don't agree with throwing it in the sea.  If she were on a beach, why didn't the person bury it in the sand like I would have.  Worse still, dropping cigarettes in public is considered littering - but where else are we supposed to put it.  If we put it in litter bins, it would be a fire hazard.

  2. I agree with her.  Cigrettes should be made ILLEGAL immediately.

Before anyone starts shouting at me, my Aunt (who I love very much) has been a heavy smoker all her life, she has very severe emphasisma (lung disease), and needs a heart and lung transplant to stay alive, but because she is in her 60's she keeps getting shoved to the bottom of the waiting list, and is so ill she has to have oxygen pumped into her body 24/7 and has been told she will probably be dead by the end of the year - she can't even cuddle her grandchildren, in case one of them pulls her oxygen tube out.

  3. It sounds very disappointing. Sea is is the best place for natural beauty and being closer to natural essence. It's sad to pollute natural water by throwing a cigarette.

    Just my thought..

  4. sound a bit pedantic.

  5. I understand her dismay, one little ciggarette butt may not seem like much, but it all helps to pollute the ecosystem, a lot of rubbish is simply tipped into the sea by various nations and companies, littering by individuals only makes it worse.

It also highlights the persons attitude to the environment generally, why not just dispose of the butt as one would an empty can of soda or any other item of refuse, ie put it in the trash/bin?

  6. Well if she saw that, she should at least help the environment..

And it would cause water pollution and if there are fishes or other living sea creatures in there, they might die just coz of ONE cigarette being dump...

And you should noe by now that we should save and also love our Earth...

So whoever has been doing this or wants to do this, he or she should stop it before it gets worse..

    Hope my opinion helps...=)

  7. it will disintigrate anyway (however you spell it)

  8. the women is pathetic its better than leaving it on the road still lite were a kid could fall on it

  9. Perhaps she was upset as there were a couple of drags left on it.

Or doesn't she like smoked Mackeral.

  10. I think plastic and oil is a worse issue concerning the sea.

  11. Pathetic

  12. Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies such as lakes, rivers, oceans, and groundwater caused by human activities, which can be harmful to organisms and plants which live in these water bodies.

Most water pollutants are eventually carried by the rivers into the oceans. In some areas of the world the influence can be traced hundred miles from the mouth by studies using hydrology transport models. Advanced computer models such as SWMM or the DSSAM Model have been used in many locations worldwide to examine the fate of pollutants in aquatic systems. Indicator filter feeding species such as copepods have also been used to study pollutant fates in the New York Bight, for example. The highest toxin loads are not directly at the mouth of the Hudson River, but 100 kilometers south, since several days are required for incorporation into planktonic tissue. The Hudson discharge flows south along the coast due to coriolis force. Further south then are areas of oxygen depletion, caused by chemicals using up oxygen and by algae blooms, caused by excess nutrients from algal cell death and decomposition. Fish and shellfish kills have been reported, because toxins climb the foodchain after small fish consume copepods, then large fish eat smaller fish, etc. Each successive step up the food chain causes a stepwise concentration of pollutants such as heavy metals (e.g. mercury) and persistent organic pollutants such as DDT. This is known as biomagnification which is occasionally used interchangeably with bioaccumulation.

The big gyres in the oceans trap floating plastic debris. The North Pacific Gyre for example has collected the so-called "Great Pacific Garbage Patch" that is now estimated at two times the size of Texas. Many of these long-lasting pieces wind up in the stomachs of marine birds and animals. This results in obstruction of digestive pathways which leads to reduced appetite or even starvation.
