Cincinnati Bengals’ Marvin Lewis doubts CB Dre Kirkpatrick for Indianapolis Colts tie – NFL News
Cincinnati Bengals’ coach Marvin Lewis has confirmed that rookie cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick is under examination for a knee problem and the injury, which appears not to be of a serious nature, has put his pro career debut in the last preseason game against
the Indianapolis Colts this week in doubts.
As per confirmation by the official, the rookie was allowed to leave practice on Monday with a sore knee. He later underwent scans.
Marvin confirmed it was just soreness on the knee but gravity of the injury would only be cleared by results of the tests.
The coach said:
"He's got a little bit of soreness. So they're checking him out to see where he is. It wasn't expected. We don't know what it is. It's just sore."
Before the injury scare, the player was upbeat about the opportunity to make formal start of his pro career as much as Marvin and other members of the Bengals organisation.
In his remarks a day earlier, the player said:
"It's very important to see where I stand, to see: `Am I really ready? To see how the work ethic I put in is progressing and pretty much just see how my leg stands up."
Now the sudden appearance of the injury problem has subdued his chance of making it to the last preseason game. He has already missed other three preseason ties and was limited in workout at training camp due to the lingering knee problem.
He hurt his knee during a team workout in the offseason and since then he has been struggling to regain fitness hundred percent.
Although the possibility of a surgery has not surfaced in any of the comments around the player’s injury, he will require at least a couple of weeks for recovery and regaining fitness even if he undergoes a microscopic procedure.
Since the team has not allowed media to directly contact Kirkpatrick, no information has emerged about his immediate prospects. The entire situation remains explained as per remarks from the coach. Nevertheless, absence of the player for any longer period
will certainly be a serious setback to the player’s pro career start.
