Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green conflicts view questioning QB Andy Dalton’s arm strength -NFL News
Cincinnati Bengals’ wide receiver, A. J. Green, has thrown full support behind quarterback, Andy Dalton, and strongly rebutted critics’ questioning of the QB’s throwing arm strength.
Dalton’s arm strength or lack of strength has remained in debate since his rookie season even though the player threw for 3,398 yards and 20 touchdowns in the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season. His performance also earned him the Pro Bowl nomination.
Furthermore, in spite of the criticism, the QB’s throws helped Green record 16 yards per reception average last season.
Green is the first rookie to have made it to the Pro Bowl roster into very first season of the pro league since 2003 and his performance was down to the reception of throws from Dalton.
It is probably the fact that baffles Green to understand why people question Andy’s arm strength when the performance numbers themselves spoke against and disapprove their opinion.
He said:
“I don't know why people question his arm. I don't believe you have to throw the ball 80 yards every play. You know, just get it out there where I can catch it.”
Green made these remarks during an appearance on NFL Network's "NFL Total Access" on Monday after organised team activities (OTAs), where Dalton in one try threw the ball for up to 72 yards in the air, which a local newspaper dubbed ‘Play of the Day.’
Irrespective of Green’s comments, Dalton himself has not said anything on the lingering debate. Also, no official of the team has spoken on the matter lately.
Bengals are aware of the fact that Dalton with the same arm strength helped them to be through to the wildcard game in the playoffs last season.
He is now backed to give an even better output in the upcoming season as the team hopes to progress beyond previous season’s level.
The Cincinnati Bengals played very competitive football throughout the season and at one point were tied with their rivals, the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers, in the American Football Conference (AFC) North division.
Dalton was their star as he with his throws for more than 3,000 yards set majority of Bengals’ wins.
