Cincinnati Bengals anticipate better form and performance from rookie QB, Andy Dalton – NFL News
This is the first offseason of Cincinnati Bengals’ rookie quarterback, Andy Dalton, and the team has backed the player to improve from the level of form and come as a different player altogether before joining the squad for the 2012 National Football League
(NFL) season in September this year.
Dalton has impressed Bengals with his form and game skills during his first professional NFL season.
Bengals were lucky to have made it to the playoffs in the past season courtesy of an out of the blue wild card chance, beating many clear hopefuls in the run.
Their last year’s campaign ended with a loss to the Houston Texans, the new arrivals of the playoffs.
It was still a successful year for them, and Dalton along with his teammates had contributed well to their victories.
The rookie was especially impressive in triggering late comebacks, which won the team a number of games.
Now the team is counting on him again and has asked him to build on his successful rookie year. He is mostly likely to be given the leading role if he is able to improve his form and fitness.
Bengals’ offensive co-ordinator, Jay Gruden, is one amongst the team’s officials who have spoken high of Dalton’s performance and foreseen bright prospects.
Gruden said:
"He better get better or he won't be good enough. You have to be great at that position and we think he can be great. That's why we drafted him where we did and he had a remarkable rookie season, no doubt about it. Knowing the kind of kid he is and how he
works, I know he'll get better."
At this time, the offensive coach ruled out reshuffling of the offensive line to give the number one position to the rookie, this remains a possibility in the future. It will depend on how the player performs in the next regular season.
The co-ordinator added:
"I'm not ready to kick guys off the team if we don't have guys that can replace them. I'd like to have all our guys back.”
In the past season, the Cincinnati Bengals, at one point, were tied with the American Football Conference (AFC) North division leaders, the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Towards the end, they slipped behind those two. In spite of that, they managed to claim a berth into the playoffs through a wild card.
Irrespective of the postseason loss against the Houston Texans, the team was pleased with the run and appreciated the players like Dalton for their contribution towards the victories.
Dalton was among few bright spots of 2011 draft seasons, and Bengals were lucky to have signed him. He through the impressive show-off of the game skills has proved credibility of their choice.
